I've had some good South African friends, all of them didn't give a shit if you were black, coloured, white, asian or whatever. I bet you're the kind of guy that still thinks Rhodesia exists and wears a bring back Apartheid t-shirt. You're correct in the fact NZ has some racist undercurrents, but mainly against immigrants, as with any predominantly western European country dealing with a large influx of Asian and other cultures immigrating here, that can be expected. Not as bad as Oz, not as bad as UK.
And as a British born coloured man of Asian descent, I support banning religions in school, I support fighting religious and cultural extremism. I support people who wants to live here having to integrate with NZ culture and not force their own onto the country. But I don't support racism. You should have left that shit in SA.
Historical creation of the word Kaffir, was by the protugese, meaning infidel, as a way to represent the non-muslim natives, you don't strike me as a muslim smoky.
Anyway, off topic! My bad.
I hate it when OPs start threads and then never reply.
You can't force all immigrants to accept NZ culture; just look at the shit that the snackbarists have caused in the UK and other white countries. It's in their religion to say "fuck you" to every one else who doesn't believe in the same version of their extremist bullshit. Their beliefs are completely opposite to those of ours. Did you know that it's in their religion to kill all women adulterers, all apostates, all homosexuals etc? White people are so ignorant, it would actually be quite funny if it weren't for the start of the demise of our culture and race.
The word "kaffir" is an Afrikaner term for blacks. In this context it has nothing to do with religion.
No, fuck that bullshit.

I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy in what you are saying.
Look if you want to encapsulate an entire culture by the couple of parts that are distasteful to you, that's fine - but don't pretend it's an accurate description of pre-European life for Māori. I could easily pull up a couple of distasteful aspects of our current social environment and use that as the basis to write off the whole lot, but it would not be accurate, fair or correct.
The Islamists who want to change the cultural norms here believe they know better and that any changes would be an improvement. How is that any different than the standpoint that you are using in your view of Māori culture?

The difference is that my beliefs don't encourage me to kill anyone who is gay, has sex outside of marriage, doesn't believe in my faith etc. I'm quite tolerant of the religious beliefs of others, as long as those beliefs don't tell the believers to kill me or anyone else, purely based on an outdated book written well over 1000 years ago.
A term not initially used in a negative sense, until the seventies. I am by no means a supporter of religious and cultural extremism, and I don't hold a grudge for acts done against "my people" generations ago. I believe in allowing people to express their beliefs as long as it does not impact others. I personally am not a supporter of the islamic faith, but I will not impinge on others right to follow it, I however will stand up against islamic extremism as it has no place in this world. I know what the Koran preaches and don't agree with it.
So do I. But if you're prepared for the gory truth, look at what goes on in Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan (those are the worst cases), ALL IN THE NAME OF ISLAM. These people don't go around cutting off heads, hands and feet just because they feel like it, it's 100% because of their religious beliefs. It's not just a minority of people that support this, but the governments actually specifies the death penalty for many things that are considered normal or acceptable in NZ (sex outside of marriage, gays, criticism of religion etc). How many of us in NZ have done at least some of those things?
If you do some research you'll find I'm not just talking shit.
