Most nasty rumours are started by DR riders - a rat like personality is neccesary to be a content DR owner

I'd certainley consider taking up the banjo if they ever closed access to tthe mungies and took away my reson for living on the coast

What are the requirements for becoming a NADSer?

I love the area around Mapua and Upper Moutere

Problem is I need to earn a living and fruit picking doesnt really push my buttons

Oh and house prices seem a bit arse puckering as well

Knowing what frailing style is, is a big part.

You also have to really enjoy riding through gorse.

    Coffee snobbery is important too.

The prices are a bit cheaper there than where we're looking out Wakefield way...

Looks like I just got the last WoF Pacific Motorcycles (formerly City Motorcycles, formerly McLeans Motorcycles) will do.
They're closing up to the public and concentrating on restoring classics etc...

Went for a ride today to try & find the old Whangamoa rd entrance. Is the one we went down (with the tank trap) the same one that has the big rocks now in front of it? if I wasn't on a wide bike I coulda squeezed past & had an explore.
To get to the other end do I have to go past the Mt duppa carpark & keep going round? I turned back there cos I was sure there was a side road we went down to hook up to it. The only side roads go to skidder sites where there is lots of dumped shit there.

I was sure I had some tracks marked on my gps but couldn't find them.

The bottom end is just past the bridge, on the right and has the rocks.
The top end is not far from the top of the hill, right next to a sign.

The roads have all changed now.
You can get in via Mt Duppa, but it's an arse getting over the rocks back at the old highway end again.

No problem with someone to help lift Schmitty though...

yeah i was thinking if I took some kind of small fold out ramp (or handy rock it would have been fine, or have someone help lift the arse up. So you do go around past the carpark then to find it from the inside?

I've got onto it from the Mt Duppa Rd before, wasn't to much of a mission but that rock pile would be a major to get over for sure. Was at least a year ago and the old road was well stuffed then, i imagine it would be much worse now.

Yup, can get in via Mt Duppa. Its not a bad ride Mt Duppa and a good way to miss a heap of highway when going to blenheim.

I went through the Mot Highway and dry weather road then st arnaud, then home. Was nice although am having confidence issues cornering the BMW on tar. Got owned by a guy on a DR650 in the twisties and pretty sure he wasn't even trying.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

On the other I had to be a wanker & pass a couple of oldies round the outside of a corner on the Whangas- their riding was painful to follow...
Why the confidence issues on the tar? A DR on the twisties is a pretty good mount tho.

I'm happy to go in & out of the old whanga rd but was unsure how far past the carpak I had to ride to find the bit that drops down onto the old rd. I still remeber my slide along the tarmac there.

Never have been that confident on the road, and am so used to the KLR and I ride that sorta dirt style on the road kinda. At the moment its a corner speed thing and the bike feels big and wallowy. The bike is capable, its a rider issue. Time on the road will fix it.

motard kit on my XR is a hoot... but decent road tires on the standard wheels is fun as well, you can get some insane lean angles on a single, great fun up Takaka hill
