Here is a piece of BMC in my neck of the woods. I believe they were worse than the landrover to work on.

" Rule books are for the Guidance of the Wise, and the Obedience of Fools"
Designed and built when labour was cheap, they weren't concerned about easy access or how things were to be worked on in later life. They are labour intensive to work on, twiddling spanners because you can't get a ratchet let alone air tools into where you need to get. A lot of it is good simple basic engineering with the knowledge and tooling of the time. I worked on a lot of Series IIA's in the '90's, before the Jap's got their 4x4's sorted, they were well worn but still serviceable.

My office was based in Deepcut and surrounded by the army barracks. >40 year old Land Rovers, with the obvious evidence of service work to keep them on the road, were everywhere. Zero sophistication, but everything was accessible and serviceable out in the field. They were selling some off and I put my name down, but the squaddies bought them all as runabouts![]()
