Err Stroud did 20 GP's i actually thought he did a stint on 250GP Suzuki as well, but i could be wrong on that one.
Crafer prior to going back to superbikes to ride the RC45 for Rumi, was racing for Harris in the 500cc World Championship before joining the Suzuki factory racing team in the 250 class. ie a works ride.
The Suzuki 250, yeah it was a bit of a dog, but it was the same dog as Kokinski had at a similar time.
The WCW yamaha he won a race on, was effectively a works ride.

I think he took over from Kozinski on the RGV250 when he purposely blew the gearbox up no?

And yep...his YZR was full house for sure. I don't remember Stroud riding 250 gp's though. But again...how many people get an easier ride into GP's (especially now), because of who they know?

To be fair to Crasher, one could argue that the Pons lads might be hard-pressed to get a ride without the family connections.

Marquez, Lorenzo et al are at the top due to talent, hard work and many other reasons. Family connections can only help so much. You need something else to get to the top.

It's similar to what they say about how to win an Olympic gold medal, "Pick your parents very carefully".

They still have to do the job though, the current names we have mentioned don't seem to be setting the world on fire. Hailwood, Rossi, and to a lesser extent Roberts Jr are the successes that spring to mind. That's not a long list.

Oh for sure mate! Doesn't matter how many doors get opened if you can't ride to save yourself. But even at a lesser level it goes on. Always will. I was never given a bike to race, but lots pf people way slower that I had 'em handed to them on a platter.

Still reckon the final four races are gonna go as I guessed a coupla pages back...

Not sure, similar time, but my understanding was lil John took the suzuki out the back and revs its nuts off for a few minutes until it blew up.
A few did and still do mainly on account of there country of origion and sponsorship being worth enough money to buy a ride, the same can be said for F1
Barros is one that stands out in my memory.
    Criville is another.

Foggy and Sheene fit that list as well. Kevin Schwantz as well maybe..... oh Haslam as well

    .
Think he revved the nuts off it and stomped it into gear without the clutch a couple of times to destroy it after finishing badly on it.

Not sure ,i have read quite a few different accounts, but yes he was know to be a little impetuous.
Shame, as his attitude rather than talent prevented him from winning a lot more championships.
The RGV250 wasn't a total dog either, Kevin when asked to ride it posted some very good times on it.
That said, no one else could do well on it though. A private Aprilia was faster.

Didn't Troy Bayliss get a wild car on it at the Australian GP and finish 8th or summat pretty good for a first time out? Or am I confusing that with Crafar?

I don't recall that, i remember Micks brother Scott Doohan getting one somewhere.
Garry McCoy got one in the 125 and did very well before fading out for a few years then returning as a total wildman
Magee was robbed of his career, for unknown reasons on one.
His results (when given a ride) were better than anyone that replaced him.

Jamie Robinson rode one for a year.
There is a guy that f-ed up when given a oportunity by Kenny Roberts,
He was given a test during some euro race and crashed it.
Kenny just walked past him in the pits muttered something along the lines of Cocksucker and walked off.

Magee fucked Bubba Shobert up at a time when it was politically indiscreet to threaten US involvement in top level GP racing. What he did to cause that accident was indescribably stupid. The punishment was out of all proportion though.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Yeah I vaguely remembered it but thought it was much earlier, but yes it was at the same time highly likely what caused him to fall out of favour with Kenny.
It sickening to watch even now. But you can see his immediate remorse.
