Yes, you're correct. I was just trying to highlight that despite choosing to do an asset write-down, they still retain ownership of the physical assets.
And that they still had the option of trying to sell the physical assets (if that was possible - i.e. legally permitted by the authorities plus a willing buyer, and settlement could be made successfully - under the current circumstances).
I'm not an accountant, but my general understanding is that you can carry assets at historic cost (generally used in a tax context) or at market value. For market value, you write the asset down (to nil in this case) by debiting a revaluation reserve account. Alternatively, if you have been carrying a fixed asset at historic cost for tax purposes, you can depreciate the asset to nil.
if you subsequently found a buyer and could make a successful sale, you could write the same assets back onto the books at that point in time (at their agreed sale value), conclude the sale process, and then deal with any tax owing (relating to that sale value).
It is generally referred to as depreciation recovered if you have previously depreciated the fixed asset. However depending on the asset (and your previous tax treatment), there may be no tax implications, so you might have a straight capital gain. Much would depend upon their operational jurisdiction and tax rules.

Many predicted Nato expansion would lead to war. Those warnings were ignored... fortunately people have the memory retention of goldfish and the analytical capability of goldfish shit.

Facebook hits out at Russia blocking its platforms.... For the right people, this is fudge packed with lulz.

"James Wolfensohn, former president of The World Bank and CEO of Wolfensohn and Co., addressed Stanford Graduate School of Business students with details about his work at the World Bank during its transition years and how the equation between developed and developing countries is changing. Wolfensohn claimed that in the next 40 years, a global power shift will see today's leading economic countries drop from having 80% of the world's income to 35%." - description from the video of Wolfensohn's address in 2010.
... The backdrop for every future decision made for every leader in the world. Since that address, BRICS and war and more of the same as predicted. The West has a ways to fall yet, and even if this current skirmish blows over, there is a much bigger war coming given the rate at which we waste the resources they send us to fight over.

Morning.
Looking on the other side of the fence, it has been interesting to note the number of Russian news websites (other than RT, Sputnik, Moscow Times) that has either been (i) physically denied access at some point in the Internet navigation hierarchy or (ii) have been the subject of DDOS attacks.
That happened (a few day ago the Russian newsites being restricted) it was widely publicized.
Facebook have also stopped articles from being linked to RT and others.

Of course the right wong parties do not like this as the Russians billionaires tend to fund their politics.

RT and Sputnik: Agreed.
But I was referring more to:
- a number of other mainstream Russian news websites (not TASS or Pravda) that had been reporting on the lead-up to the Ukraine military exercise, and had been reporting on progress since
- a number of Russian blog sites that had also been providing regular periodic updates on Russian progress
Russian media is all owned and controlled directly by the Russian govt so I am more than a little dubious about its authenticity. No matter which outlet.
So much so its a crime to print or suggest anything that is not glowing in praise of the govt or more importantly Putin

Manopausal.
Boris Berezovsky and Vladimir Gusinsky were two powerful Russian oligarchs in the 1990s. Berezovsky had invested in the former public broadcaster ORT's first channel while Gusinsky, created Russia's first independent TV station, NTV.
After Putin's power takeover, the media owned by Berezovsky and Gusinsky were the first victims of this "purge." Tax controls, raids by armed men, searches and arrests forced their bosses to flee the country and to sell their media outlets.
Berezovsky was found dead in his home, Titness Park, at Sunninghill, near Ascot in Berkshire, on 23 March 2013. A post-mortem examination found that his death was consistent with hanging and that there were no signs of a violent struggle. However, the coroner at the inquest into Berezovsky's death later recorded an open verdict

I can't see that item but Russia is widely reported to be introducing a new law banning any criticism of the governments policies with regard to Ukraine. Breaches earn fifteen years and/or a huge fine by Russian standards. This is causing nervousness among foreign journos.
