Free speech isn't as free as a lot of people believe (or want) ... There are laws (even in NZ) about what you can or can't say.

Republican politicians are calling for the Manhattan DA to be called before their kangaroo court. Federal politicians have zero right to interfere in a state court case.
The Justice Department has also long had a policy that politicians should not interfere in ongoing investigations or cases. The politicians could be charged with obstructing justice but probably won't be. The Democrats don't play hardball.

Trump's campaign finance violations are the least serious of all the various charges he currently faces though.

Communications between a lawyer and their client are supposed to be sacrosanct. In US law there is an exception: the crime fraud exception. If the lawyer is considered a participant in the crime privilege will be waived. The judge in the documents case has waived privilege. Further she has handed the lead lawyer's notes to the prosecution referring to events at Mar A Lago as a "criminal enterprise." A number of the previous hearings now have to be held again, this time without the lawyer having the option not to answer - unless he pleads the Fifth.

There are other options such as a personal cheque - or a series of cheques. If you ask Google you'll be shown cheques made out to Cohen and signed by Junior, Weiselberg, or by Trump himself.
