So riding through a river crossing (part of any normal adv ride) is now grounds for a write off ? Wonder how NZTA determined that?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

NZTA don't. Your insurance company writes the vehicle off. NZTA just won't let a flood damaged vehicle back on the road.

So do you have to have receipts? And if so, they would have to be applied solely to your vehicle?

I've never actually been down that path before, but from experience in other compliance areas yes receipts have to be provided and installation signed off on. In fact I don't know anyone who has gone to the effort, both dealers just sold their cars for parts.

Yeah, so if NZTA wont let a vehicle back in the road it's effectively useless, ie a write-off. People dont pay insurance premiums so they can have a vehicle that they cant use.

Looking a the ABS that is supposedly rendered unsafe by water - the wheel components are exposed to water in the normal course of operation (driving on wet roads) and are sealed accordingly. THe ABS pump is usually in a sheltered position but again sealed to keep brake fluid in and water out. The vehicle computer is well sealed. Do NZTA have a proper understanding of the vehicles that they are supposed to be administering? Have they heard of Deutsch,Superseal and other automotive waterproof connectors?

I've seen the effects of water ingress on modern electrics in cars, I guess sitting in water for a few days is different to crossing a ford or diving in rain. I know of a few Porsches that made it to NZ with water damage, they were useless ultimately because Porsche stepped in, but I know of one of them that was used by a dealer on a d plate and it had ongoing transmission and abs controller issues due to the flooding.

Most ADV “river crossings” are splashing through puddles masquerading as creeks. However let’s say you were to lose your KTM1290 across a raging Ford you would find your next renewal may have some amendments.
There was an Aussie you tuber trying to be the next big “influencer” in the 4wd scene. He managed to bog a brand new Mitsubishi in water that was prob bit higher than bonnet level. Anyhow it took some time before he was recovered. In the meantime the water crept past all door seals etc and wrecked all electronics. Write off. His insurance paid out but told him he wouldn’t be covered in same circumstances again.

Dont know where you go riding but where we go, river crossingongs are a quite a lot more than puddles Was with a rider who drowned his 950 KTM in the river running from Napoleon Hill. Got well and truly submerged. Normal recovery procedures (plugs out crank the warer out of the cylinders, drain the carbs, oil change, ensured it restarted and it kept running fine for many years after that.

If that is the on near Ikamatua he made the mistake of going straight out of the tunnel you need to go further downstream same with the mackley river up between Westport and Inangahua.

Was in the creek that is between the quite high straight up and down cliffs. Another of our group drowned his DR650 in the mackley - slippery bastard crossing that one.

This is a tale of rebuilding a flood damaged McLaren hybrid. Salt water flooded. Obviously not in this country.

By what, four or five individuals?

More than half the replies on the first random page I checked were from you. If you stopped waving your poms poms for a bit the thread would die off and disappear.

A WEF multi-billionaire business man who advocates infinite economics on a finite planet while wasting resources on spaceships to take us to an even more inhospitable place. Hmmmm, what is there to like is a really good question. I bet he's a really nice guy, but he's a businessman that doesn't work according to the boundaries of any sane reality given modern day issues. Give us an infinite planet, and he's a God. Alas........
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
