Major news this morning. The Supreme Court of the US has ordered Trump to turn the USAID money spigot back on. Trump had ordered all funding frozen despite it having been approved by Congress. The Court has ruled 5 to 4 that payments must begin immediately.

And I refuse to believe that 80,000 workers in the VA sat around all day with nothing to do. I guess the veterans will find out once it has been done, because you can bet musk and trump will not have the slightest idea what they all do as they are too lazy to truly look into it and find out.

He has been trying that but some judges are starting to make appropriate arrangements. There may be growing pressure from Republicans too. Many farmers are facing the possibility of losing their farms because of Trump's blundering about and farmers tend to vote Republican.

US aid is often not in cash, much of it is in food: soy, corn, wheat, rice, and peanuts. Farmers are geared up to supply that market but Trump has stalled it.

Under Biden there was introduced a plan by which farmers could increase the output of their farm. If their proposal was approved a contract was signed to refund the agreed expenditure when the work was completed. Payments have been stopped, the contract ignored, but the banks want their money.

Some states have mainly intensive farming operations. These require considerable staff to operate most of whom are undocumented immigrants. These workers are now scared to go to work in case the immigration people are waiting. Nebraska says six months of this will bankrupt the state.

Still, most farmers voted for Trump so it's not as if they're due much sympathy.

Or perhaps it's just the usual bullshit lies and threats hoping they'd back down, but unfortunately that doesn't work when the other side has an equally big stick to wield.

Of course a tariff is just a targeted tax, so in effect what he's really doing is taxing US citizens who buy things made overseas, good for government income but not so good for the average household budget.
