This sums up the USA today.
Unfathomably, an Afghanistan guy shot two National Guard Troops, of one that died. A real tragedy, no doubt. The shooter must have mental issues.

Compare MANY multiple groups of USA children murdered while in school, scores and scores of them now. The best they can hope for is "hopes and prayers". Compare that with trumps punitive measures when one national Guardsmen dies......

Reexamining green card applications: The government began reexamining all green card applications for people from "countries of concern". There were also considerations of expanding the existing travel ban to additional countries.

Reviewing refugees: A memo was issued to review the cases of all refugees who entered the U.S. during the Biden administration (specifically between January 20, 2021, and February 20, 2025).

Couple of indications of Trumps megalomania in the past couple of days. When he was awarded the "FIFA Peace Prize" he couldn't wait for FIFA to put it over his head, he grabbed it and put it on himself. He probably wore it to bed.


Trump has removed Martin Luther King Day and Juneteenth as days that allow free entry into national parks. He has replaced them with his own birthday.

Haha, Russia wasn't ready for a war with Ukraine. In a conventional war Europe would wipe the floor with them. Then China would move in to pick at the corpse of the areas they feel they want, Read Mongolia and surrounding.

Problem is it wouldn't stay conventional if they started losing bad.

I sincerely hope we don’t get to find out. The west has given away its ammo stockpiles to Ukraine much faster than we can replenish them and new factories for extra demand aren’t coming online very soon.

There’s been lots of reports about how we’d run out after about 6 days of heavy combat.
A good example was Israel’s iron dome, great technology but you can only keep lobbing such expensive missilesvin air for so long. A low tech adversary eventually overwhelmed the system.

Actual battle ready combat troops in west well the numbers are alarmingly low.
A large part of society is probably not mentally ready to cope with being at war.

That's an understatement. British generals advised the politicians that there was a staffing number below which it would be difficult to recover. I undrstand there were further cuts. Britains military is a basket case.

The Baltic states and Poland are nervous and are spending large on defence. Others bordering Russia, or a Russian sympathetic enclave such as Transnistria, should be spending big too.

Russia is not the threat it was. Russia was widely regarded as the second best military in the world. Turned out they were just the second best in Ukraine. Russia isn't really in much of a position to start any further military adventures.

Of more immediate concern is our own military preparedness. Our whole system of defence is based on support from the US. The US is not currently a reliable ally. Our navy don't even have enough people to man their few ships. The army top brass refer to units that exist on paper but not on the ground. They lost a lot of people during COVID, endlessly guarding people in isolation hotels was not what they were supposed to be traininging for. Now the Minister wants to use them as strike breakers. Some will be happy enough about that. Others will quit.
