Funny enough the Husky predecessor to to the original Husaberg was created from a 2t bottom end. It appears now we have gone full circle so maybe onto the wankel next?

Easily my favorite two stroke since I read about it in The High Speed Internal Combustion Engine. I started to design a 3 cylinder aircraft engine to replace the 6 cylinder four strokes used in private planes. I think if it had been developed more, it would still have promise against small turboprops. A better reference is The Rolls-Royce Crecy from the Rolls-Royce heritage trust.

Made a new fixture today, so as to hold crank halves dead concentric, three jaw I use at the moment is not accurate and needs re clocking every time, a pain in the arse. This will sort that problem, lots of cranks to make potentially.

Would your engine design be the "Merlyn"? I read up on that one and sooo wished it would have been developed. It would be a perfect replacement for our aging radial engined crop dusters..Many have gone to the turboprops which are super expensive and inefficient at the low altitudes that crop dusters operate at..I also looked into V-8 conversions for a crop duster, but the certification process is near impossible.

Been thinking about this a little more, being the sleeve has no rings, and is well guided within the aluminium cylinder you could have as much exhaust port width as you want, perhaps even no bridges at all just a complete ring of nothing but port. No rings to keep in check, even if you do have bridges as port dividers they could be minimal and there is water cooling right up to just behind them anyway. Also port shape could be square as once again no rings to contend with. Yes as Frits has remarked previously that the opening speed of the sleeve is less than a piston on a port, there is a lot more port being uncovered, area rather than time.
Maybe retirement might bring a new interest in finishing thus project, get some real results.
Also a large part in interest in re visiting this engine as there is no need for expensive nikasil coating, nitride steel on LM13 is a great match.
This just released Kawasaki 327 might finally make YZ250 gearboxes way less desirable (expensive), no one will want their YZ's anymore..... maybe. That's what's required to re assemble this engine.
