True enough, she is an adult that can make her own decisions, but that does preclude her from setting an example for other people. I don't care who you are if you do something stupid then you put yourself up for scrutiny. Sure it may have been only 5kph but how much does it take to crack open your head on the road and who would have had to deal with it? Not much and the people that it seems she was showing off to. I've met Crashe and have found her to be a nice enough person so rest assured this is not a personal attack. It is a comment on the actions shown in the photo. Enough justification for my comment?

Well since you ask.........

Lets say you see a rider doing something dodgey and think, 'that looks cool. I might give it a go.'
But with the kb secret squirrel running round one would never know the consequences of those actions. Kiwibiker should have discussions (open discussions) on all aspects of biking including the cosequences of what happens when things go wrong and others opinions on what behavours are acceptable and not acceptable.

Lets say I post up a thread saying I was doing wheelies past a school at 3pm in the afternoon. Would you expect someone to pm me and tell me they think I am riding like a dickhead or wouldnt it be better to have an open discussion where everyone gets the chance to tell me I am a dickhead?

I don't see it as a personal attack. ANY rider who rides like that (without a helmet & unsafely) should be brought to task.

I agree. Everyone is accountable for what they do on their bike. Just seems that when things go wrong kiwibiker is trying to sweep certain behavours under the carpet. If you cover your eyes long enough it cant be happening out there can it?

I don't see this as a personal attack we dont give a cat ass what crashe does but when she is putting herself out there as a kb mentor ( which has been pointed out she's not) she should not be teaching that type of behaviour and yes i have heard her telling a newby how to ride with no hands someone that had only been on there bike for a few months .

The thing that people are trying to say is that there is a time and place newby rides are not the time or place.

This issue comes down to the fact that a KB judged "experienced rider" was seen riding without all the normal gear and some people are concerned that every newbie will follow suit.

Firstly, every newbie is at least 15 years of age and has developed a certain amount of intelligence to at least have passed their learners license.

Secondly, most humans do not follow blindly like sheep. The chance of a newbie dong that is very slim indeed. If they do and Darwin claims them, 1-0 to evolution.

Don't we on KB have more important things to worry about, like the amount of animal effluent or crap road surfaces on our highways?

Is it really not kiwibikers job/task to educate and inform other bikers on what other bikers feel is acceptable behaviour or not?

Like any forum, kiwibiker is loads and loads of opinions. The majority here is saying that it is unacceptable to ride anywhere without a helmet. That in itself is a lesson put out there. If anyone takes notice is another thing.....

Although I am sure the picture was intended as light hearted fun.... we all know when things like that go wrong, it really goes wrong.

I recall having to deal with a horrific death at the Red Beach lights of a biker who died of massive head injuries... because his unprotected head shattered on the road after a collision with a car. I will never get those images out of my head for the rest of my life.

I am very disappointed to see that picture - when I have heard that very rider preach to others about safety when riding.

That is fare enough rhino but when she is out there teaching newbys how to ride with no hands and makes out that she is a kb mentor then you can't get upset at us for feeling that it wrong.

anyone who thinks newbie riders wont be influenced by the actions of an experienced rider have never been out riding and had someone pass them and then tried to catch up. which of the bikers i know is pretty near none of us.

bollox to the alllattg or whatever it is but big ups to teaching new riders properly.

- How hard is it to follow the speed limit?
- How hard is it to follow the '2 second rule'?
- How hard is it to keep your tyres in good nick?
- How hard is it to follow the advisory speed limits on corners?

How long does it take to recover from a head injury depending on the situation?
