I simply cant even imagine the feelings that must have been going thru your mind at the courthouse... I'm sooo glad he did decided to plead guilty, altho it doesn't sound like he has the maturity to really try to deal with his actions by at least trying to own up to it to you.
Everytime I get on the bike, and see my partner and friends do the same, I know there is a possibilty that we may not make it home, thru either ours or someone elses actions. Its a risk we take, and at times it still scares me, but I figure that is a good thing, keeps me alert... and I dont think I could ever not ride. I doubt if many car drivers have these thoughts even tho a lot of them dont make it home either.
Cant do much about a complete fkn tosser like this bloke, I'm guessing he'll go to jail? maybe something will get thru there, who knows... at the very least he wont be driving for a long time, one less ignorant driver out there.
I so feel for you Lisa, words cant really express it...

Quick update - 10 days to go till court case. The restorative justice meeting I requested has been declined by steve mason, saying that he wants to get the court case out the way first. Well I'm glad he can just get it out of the way because it seems noone else can do it so simply! Anyway obviously only gives a shit about his own situation. Getting nervous about court, some other cases that have come up lately don't seem to have been given much in the way of penalty. Hopefully won't be the same for this one.

    Hi Lisa
I've heard that the judge usually is tough but fair, so hopefully this guy will get his, if not through court, Karma will get him one way or another!

Will see you at court on the 12th.
I hope to get away from work early, but if I can't I'll be a bit late but hope to be there before its all over.

Hi Lisa, I just caught the tail end of this thread and don't know the story but very sorry for what you're going through. The court bits are real stressful.

About the restorative justice. In cases like this the system is actually quite against any meeting till after sentencing - that likely includes the prosecutor and the offenders lawyer.

It's often happened that the offender influences the victim to ask for a soft sentence - later regretted. The fact they have even entered into RJ can also be used to whittle down the sentence, even if they were not decent to ya'.

Defence lawyers also fear the offender will mess up - getting your back up so your impact statement gets more damning. If RJ is wanted a request for it after sentencing may be worth it. Also I hope you have got yourself on the serious victims register - you have to ask the Police to organise that, it sometimes gets missed.

This means you get a say at parole hearings (if any) and to get to know developments. Sentences for these killings are all over the place - mad!
Anything from 100 hours community service to 6 years jail (that's killing 2). It's classed non violent so it's out in a third. The standard would be about 6 months served, with priors I think. Though they are trying to get home detention to be the new way.

The RJ was requested to be done after sentancing, so that is probably why he declined - It wouldn't have helped his sentance! I havn't heard of the serious victims register but I will ask about it. Its hard to think how the sentancing will go but it's good to get info like this. It all helps the mental prep to get an idea of what to expect. Cheers to SDU aswell, it will be good to see you in court. The support means alot. Remember 2.15 on the 12th. They have said they will prioritise the case so we arn't kept waiting so should be the first or second case up. Its quite a sickening feeling really, especially when wee Anton has been missing him so much lately. He goes as high as he can on his swing and says he is going to go really high, up to the sky and bring daddy back down. He sings twinkle twinkle little star for daddy and carries around his wee photo album. His preschool xmas concert is the day after court, so that will be hard for both of us knowing Brendon should be there.

Yip court 1, 2.15pm on Wed 12th. Just had email from restorative justice, Mason has said it is "likely" he will do a meeting, I think it is more "likely" he just said that for the sake of the senatancing. But givin the way he has screwed things around I'm sure the judge will see that.

COURT DELAYED. MASON WILL NOT BE APPEARING ON 12TH

Well what do ya know ....the little fck has stalled the courts again! This time they left it till late today to put in to apply for home detention whichmeans they have to gather information in relation to it. So now I have no idea when the case will be but some how can't see it being before xmas and to really fck things up.... Brendons internment is on Sunday. I planned it for after court so that the final process and memory would be about Brendon and laying him to rest. Now we either have to cancel his Internment or go ahead and continue the fight. What a great final memory aye. He such a fkn little tosser, perfect candidate for a capping! Appoligies to those who had already arrange time of work etc to be there.

Well I din't think they could fck it up anymore than what they did....But.... They have set the date for Christmas Eve. I mean come on, we have a little 3 yr old who already misses his daddy, can't he atleast try to enjoy what is left of christmas. As it is we have no family here and need to travel south so Anton can have christmas with his cousins, it's really gonna screw things up for him. Its not fair a 3 yr old should have to miss christmas because of the same fckwit that stole his daddy from him! I am doing my best to try to get it changed but the victim advisors have been total arseholes about it. I have gone back through the kiapoi cops, they were really good so hoping I might get more help through them and the police prosecuter.

By the way the Internment is Laying him to rest. At the moment I have his ashes here at home, so on sunday we will have a gathering at the crematorium and unvail the headstone. I will place Brendon to rest in the earth behind the headstone. Have music going, say a few words release balloons etc and then we will go down to the park for a picnic and a play with the kids. Just a nice way to acknowledge him, lay him to rest and for people to know they can go there to pay there respects.
