Relax and go with it. When you're on the bike focus on your riding and maintain a healthy safety margin.

That's my experience so far - admittedly it's only been 3 months so far but I still think it's valid!
I would agree. Its like a self for filling prophecy.

I once got into the mindset that it was about time I had an accident (I worked it out at that time, I was averaging an accident per 14000km lol). I started to push the limits more and more, almost trying to temp fate.

    Sure enough I crashed.

Now I go out thinking the opposite. I will not have an accident today. Its worked for the last 50000kms that Ive ridden. Sure I may have become a better and more experienced rider. But as soon as you set out to have an accident you can guarantee that you will have one.

Its like this.. and it omes with time, which a lot of you younger ones strugle with.
Avoiding thes situations you listed is like this: riding to suit, riding the right lines, expect the unexpected corect bike set up, have a escap root planed... all this and experance will have you ready to avoid any situation, and with any luck... it will.

exactly that line of thinking is what i am talkin about, plannin to expect the unexpected and having escape routes..... u just justified exactly all my points i been trying to say and this is what i am meaning below Mikkel, i'm not talking about thinking of crashing when riding a bike yet the what if's and possible scenerios that could pop up while on the ride.

ur missing the point dude i not talkin about thinking of crashing amd lookin at where u going have a look at laRIKins comments he's onto what i talking about, ride to survive, but u need to take it in mind everytime u get on that bike that u need to take it easy today as u never know what is gonna happen.

Ever checked out the Welly Wed ride- dont seam to have the issues that go on in here. They ride the rima with newbies, have minor incidents on occasions and no one bitches and moans about it for the next week. THey just enjoy the ride and each others company, helping out where they can. Thats what we want right?

    Just a thought

D- I have no idea who Mr S is- he could be the most fantastic rider in the world, or a complete idiot- I dont know. So why would I take what he has to say on board?
Maybe he has valid points, but until he comes along- or I get to meet him and see what kind of rider/person he is then its hard for me to see where he is coming from- and all I see is another person putting the ride down and causing trouble that we dont need, cos we seam the be able to do it ourselves.
I just want to ride, and learn to ride better. Enjoy some company with other riders. Is that to much ask?

There's only one person on here getting their knickers all knotted about the ride - who's actually been anyway. The rest of us are trying to answer criticism and not getting anywhere.

I've got no control over how anyone else rides... and TBH most of the speedy ones who zoom off will do it whether told on here by him (or anyone) or not - it's the "being in a group" thing, sets them off, they can't just cruise, they'll have to play. Half of them aren't on KB and prob won't see this anyway.

I only got pissed off because Mr S had a lot to say but never even been. If you've got nothing nice to say, why bother saying anything?

TBH, with the number of times I get to go out on my bike recently, any chance for a ride I'll be going for a decent blast, not just cruising. Turn up at the meet, have a chat or two, ride to destination, talk more.

Telling me not to take things to heart? You could take your own advise. By saying "what the hell have you been smoking" I'm more referring to the fact that you've pulled something out of nowhere rather than any reference to any habits you may or may not have - I couldn't care less either way.

You're far more interested in abusing me than giving me any useful advice (it's fucking true too if you'd read your own posts from an objective point of view), and as such I have no more use for anything you may or may not post on KB. I've put up with your bullshit for quite long enough, and now I'm very pleased to say "welcome to ignore".

oh fer fucks sake, give it a rest DE.
NO ONE has abused you... a bit of pisstaking yes, and you give it right back so live with it. If you think anything said has been abuse you haven't a clue of what abuse truely is. Abuse is the shit some mods have to put up with when people say they are gonna come and kill them and their families, cos they had to be moderated... in a forum?? fkn ridiculas.
This is the internet, people get het up over really stupid shit, yourself included. No-one can be objective cos we are all right.

You did go OTT with MrS, and yes he probably shoulda thought before posting, but people dont. All he based his assumptions on is what was written, and with the crap flying back and forth no wonder he thinks some of those he hasn't meet on this thread are complete tossers.

Give over with the "he did this so I'm gonna do that".
D has reasons for being a grump at times, hes seen crashes where other people have done stupid shit and resulted in others being carted off in helicopters to hospital, not a nice thing. Hopefully you and I dont have to ever see that.
Both of ya grow up, stop hasseling each other for no reason and just enjoy the rides.

And by the way the correct response to this post is "yes mum!"

And yes Fireliv, the Staging post do was AB FAB!!

    stuff going on here

But yeah it was an awesum day/night... something for some of the newbies to think about, coming along to a rally. Get a chance to talk to people rather than just say hello in passing.
Next big one is Woodstock in late Jan (near Hokitika). The glenorchy one has been canned, which is a shame cos we used to ride to Queenstown for the night, then onto the perfect rally site the next day, ah well, I think there is another near Gore being planned about the same time instead

Okay, alright, abuse maybe wasn't the right word for it. Perhaps swap in bait, antagonise, be belligerent with... it doesn't matter, it's totally beside the point. The red reps from him must've been figments of my imagination then, apparently. He's far more interested in baiting me, antagonising me, whatever, than actually having anything nice to say - and most of it hasn't got a lot to do with me anyway.

Basically, I've had enough of his constant baiting, call it whatever you like, so I'm making my KB life better, as well as others browsing this thread, by putting him on ignore. D'ya see what I mean, what I'm doing here? Don't get me wrong - in person he's fine, I don't have a problem with him and I don't think he has a problem with me. Bit of banter here and there but nothing major. But online he can't seem to resist sniping at me. So, unfortunately, for me and others 'ignore' is the best way to go. If he really doesn't want to be on ignore he can explain why not, but I don't think it'll really bother him either way.

Yes, I did go a little OTT with Mr. S, and he's reacted in his own way to that, bless his soul. But that's a matter between me and him (if there is a matter any more - will be PMing him an apology shorty), not really anything to do with dangerous.

Oh yes, quite, and I don't envy him having seen any of that stuff - it really can't've been pleasant. I know he means well and doesn't want people doing stupid shit and having pointless accidents / injuries / death / causing harm to others on his watch... but although I'm not saying he's not a sensible person, nor that he wouldn't be after 35 years and roughly 200,000+ kms (see Dangerous, rehearsed it well ), he really could be antagonising some of the guys who actually partake in the silly buggers, rather than myself.

How many younger guys do you know who waited the full two years to their full, and didn't buy a bigger bike before they had the green plastic? Not sure about you, but seems to me the majority don't wait. I have. In fact, I've now received my official one... but still haven't even test ridden a bigger bike yet. No hurry eh?

That's all I've been trying to say - I'm on the same side as he is. But he doesn't quite seem to get that.

Anyway, that's quite enough of this subject. Back to the ride!

For me, that would be tea at Duvauchelle then.
Weather could go either way but looks warmish.
