Here's some more pics of Jay and he was doing the meanest knee slides onto the bridge generating sparks - no-one else was doing that from what I saw.

That's Shirrifs in pic 3 and Nick O in pic 4 and Jay again in pic 5.

Obviously the organisers think the 'tards are the bees knees because they were last race of the day. I took one last pic, this time of Josh McFarlane the Aussie who took out the feature because Toby Summers overshot a corner, before I left the circuit to go and have dinner with friends in Wanganui.

Sadly no pics of the umbrella girls to show you.

I finally got home about 10.15pm and would say I had a pretty good day, but like many are saying the flavour was just not quite spicy enough this year. OK the weather wasn't perfect, but I've been to wet days there before that were memorable events.

Thanks and other than it being wet early stuffing up practice the rest of the day was fine if at times a bit windy - I can't say I had a bad day, but then I wasn't competing.

They had (and do have) bridges at other race events, which are usually export containers. I'm surprised this hasn't been the case at Wangavegas...? Would made the whole crossing thing easier...

agreed... they have a bridge at wyndham that seems to be basically permanent.

Great Day for sure!Not as easy to get around the track,for spectators as,in previous years-hay and high fenses,must be cheap this year.

Cheers guys - I've always enjoyed having my pics - this year I didn't take so many mainly because the light wasn't so good and the format of the racing wasn't as great. I date back to the Marlboro years and earlier so did find this year a bit unexciting.

The days of Allan Collison on a Mach IV versus Keith Turner on the Benelli 650, and Trevor Discombe vs Dale Wylie in '74 are the kind of days I remember well, along with Croz on the Z1R in '77. The 'tards just don't have that sort of emotion associated with them, they belong in their own series.

Here's some of my old pics from '74 taken on my fancy Kodak Instamatic can't adjust anything camera. Note the total lack of fencing - no crowd restraints needed - God we had fun back then.

Nice pics,digital is good,no processing costs lol.And it is bloody hard to focus etc with notorsport,was at Bathurst in 98,spent about 2-3 laps by the cutting and top of mountain just trying to focus as the cars flew by,and trying to get the cars I wanted.Managed to get the cars I wanted on film,and most in shot too,they actually were not bad.

Liked the comment about the old marlboro series,was damn good series with Cros and Freeth,then a couple of newby's named Holden,Hiscock and Rankin.Good days to be had,especially when you had a few beers then drove home(whoops).

Me and my girlfriend had a great time as spectators - got the sunburn to prove we were there too. You can't beat street racing for excitement (we went to Taupo today to watch the other racing). Although entry was free, standing 30m away from the track just aint the same!

Yep and in the 70's we sat with our feet in the gutters between races with no fences to worry about.

The good 'ol days! I heard from a nurse at Wanganui hospital that the side car swinger broke his arm yesterday. I saw the bin 150m away from behind (so not really). What was the story, the flip looked nasty....?!

the guys involved in the pile got into a punch up, according to the loudspeaker. i was on the bp straight, so cant say how big a fight it was.
