SM, try holding half your mates face on as he's lying on the side of the road, try having to ride home when your broken mate has just been loaded into an ambulance (or worse, dead) and your whole body is still shaking no matter how many shuddering deep breathes you try and take, try telling him as he's lying there that everything's ok when you know damn well that the ambo's are 20 minutes away and there's already more blood than you've seen in your life leaking over the road. Try dialling a mobile phone to make that call to his missus when you can't stop shaking enough to read/jab the numbers not having a clue what to say and your mouth feels like the bottom of a parrots cage.

I wonder where your "fucking huge grin" would be then....I wonder if you'd be grinning if you were the one lying broken on the road......
I don't really wonder, 'cos I know for a fact you'd be crying and snivelling and praying/begging just like the rest of us and you'd do anything, absolutely anything at all if you could only turn back the clock.

But hey, you don't have to listen to people like me spruiking on, you can just keep riding as you are and find out for yourself.......
Brilliant. That post should be required reading for all new bikers, and those among us who never seem to learn.

+1 Agreed! Crashes are not fun. Good post, scarily eye opening. Sent shivers down my spine. I never want to see a rider go down again *ehab that mean you too bro, no exceptions*, and skidmark, I would you rather have a "huge fucking grin" after getting home safe than them not being able to tell if your smiling or not.

    Me too.

Coro loop is not a race track. Ride to the conditions & enjoy some of the most fun roads in northern NZ. Go for smoothness other than speed & carve up the corners safely.

    never been on the loop
if I ever go to Auckland I will do it
Sounds to me like a road where Pace not race would be more enjoyable
I enjoy the twistys bits over, down and around hills as much as anybody else
But Pace myself rather than try and go as fast as possibile...
I think thats more fun, more relaxing,
Corro loop sounds like a ride I will enjoy one day
I guess there are similar roads down here on the mainland

Enjoy a hot pace....dont die in the race

I have seen this on many an occasion, while most of the time Actually prolly more like 99% of the time I don't know the people, it still affects me.....I notice the difference in my attitude...my wife cops it, my kids, my workmates, my bosses, so those soughts of things don't just affect the victims and their family's it can affect upwards of 50 or 60 people just on the emergency services side of it.

I think this thread epitomises the difference between good riders on this site and those who equate fast with being a good rider. Good riders always ride to the conditions. Then there's the others who have no idea about scanning the road and surroundings for potential hazards.

agreed. That post should be framed and put up as a sticky.

Scene of accidents aside there is nothing worse than a visit from the police in the middle of the night that starts with "Sir, I am sorry to inform you ........"
Skiddy and I have crossed threads more than I like recently and although I really want to shake my head and walk away I pity the poor cop who is on duty on the day that is coming who has to give a speech that can only be read off a script. There is a RIP thread coming for skiddy. I have no doubt at all about it. His "friends" are far too busy defending his "illness" to give him a slap round the ears and let him know that this stuff is not ok.
I can only hope that no one else gets taken out at the same time.

Indeed - I do wish some would get a bucket or just take thier bikes to a damn track and go racing...
SM has x-ray vision though and scans THROUGH the rock wall while rounding 45km/h bends at 140km/h.
He also has USD forks, which enable him to scrape fairings and engine casings before scrubbing off his chicken strips...
Just as well it's your bike that's in a box right now!

Excellent post Slowpoke. Bling duly awarded. Should be made mandatory reading to all bikers.

I am fortunate enough to not have had first hand experience of such a traumatising event, and I pick and choose who I ride with accordingly in the hope that I never will.

You are really pathetic - I know that you have a "oh look at me, look at me, look what I can do" 5 year old mentality. Riding like that where someone died showing how "clever" you are is ridicilous. Remember that is where he died - are you that much better rider than he was?

I dont know the guy, but can only imaging him there looking down saying "slow the fuck down - I dont want you joining me" - not "way to go Skidmark"
