Fatjim, how much do you weigh, and whats your riding like (speed wise)?
Dollars aside, the tuono (imho, and comparing a well run in cb900 v not run in tuono) only beats the hornet at higher speeds, say, 120-130+, when the hp makes a real difference, and is more flickable in the country.
Top speed of the hornet is around 200, tuono should be a fair bit higher, prob in vicinity of 250 I would imagine. The modded hornet I ride is fantastic at everything other than high speed, which I am not after, but more grunt wouldn't go amiss on country rides. Its fantastic around town.
Performance wise, it also equals my zx10 around a certain off camber sweeper I know well, going at slightly above twice the limit, the hornet is relaxed, composed, and I wish for more power. The zx10, I have my hands full making sure it doesn't step out of line. Springing a bike on the soft side also does wonders, as the 10 is a little oversprung, as I kept squashing the front flat going into corners.
If you don't think the hornet needs to be capable of more speed (it feels like it over revs a little at 110 on the motorway) then I highly recommend it. The tuono is extremely flickable in the country tho, but is beaten hands down around town.

The "Problem" with Wellington and the 'Rapa is it gives you some variety of roads. From commuting at 100-140, to the 'tukas which are very nice and twisty, to 200k+ roads on the other side.
The VTR or SV tops out at around 240k on a good day, but getting from 200-240 takes a lunchtime.
The problem is finding a bike that does it all. Whether I could lve with a bike that can't do the ~200k crusiing is a question I have think about.
BTW, I wiegh about 125Kg dry. Add another 10kg (it seems like that) for leathers. I'm also a bit of a sail, not helping at all with wind resistance.
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.

I don't see your updated sig yet!![]()
If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
humpf... they lose licenses you know
Fatjim, hard one. Nakeds are a lot of fun in the twisty bits, but if you want to err... shorten the straights... the nakeds aren't going to be a lot of fun down the straight, unless you are saving wear on the front.
Personally, I'm happy to not really go above 130 ish, unless overtaking, or really trying. Straights are boring, nothing you can do. Wait for the corner, then you speed up.

07 Tuono... I will call it a she
She is a funky number. She would be a fit young gal with big handles, she perfer to be ridden any way you like it be it sit on top/ hang off the side/ head down ass up ......... as long as you keep it going fast. She is well mannered, makes you feel like you are standing still when she is pouncing at the legal limit. Bit of a sport she is, always asking.... give me more.... give me more....it takes a bit of right hand control to make sure you don't come in hot...
She will get bored in slow going traffic, so best that you bypass them. Just ask her nicely and she will show you her finess and guide you a path between the moving bricks.
At the moment her suspenders are a bit stiff for me, so she is bouncing me a little at the moment. I am getting some fine ohlins crafts man to make me a made to measure, so that she will be suspended nicely and not be bouncing when over bumpy roads...
If she was a gal, she will make my GF worry.
F@#$ this is a bog standard Tuono, factory pipes, factory suspension settings.... wait till I have it customised for ME!
ps. she has the best factory setup suspension of any bike I have ridden. Its a bit stiff, but very well balanced.![]()
