Thread: What do you do?

Hey boy. You should go South! DO IT!!!

I did the same thing when I was 22. Grew up in a small town, lived with my parents etc. Went flatting, but still in the tiny town where everyone knows everyone etc. Saw a job for same company advertised in Rangiora - same region as you're heading - and went for it. Lived down there for about a year. Best year of my life. Worked out who I was, got my own personality - not the one my home town had given me. If I hadn't had to move back home to take care of my family I'd still be down there.

DO IT!! DO IT!! DO IT!!

My comment was based on the fact that in business times are tough. Owners are generally not in a position to pay well above the standard rates for no real reason at all. Friendship and business are generally kept well separated by anyone with any smarts. Hiring someone at double the normal rate - why would they do that when they can hire two people and get twice the work done???

If a offer sounds too good to be true - it normally is.

I was calling bullshit on the role and rate - not having a go at you. Although Ill be honest and say you really need to grow up and get yourself in a position to make up your own mind and run your own life.

    Yeah, okay.

Well it's not exactly easy to have the self motivation to run you own life when you have the KB lynch mob always breathing down your neck.

He knows i would be a useful asset to the company, as i am not an idiot.

Me and him have talked it over, given that it will cost me well over $100pw to commute it's not as peachey as it sounds.

Reading a number of your threads - I can see why they are there....

However they shouldn't have any impact on your self motivation - that is something that is internal to you. There are people in the world that face hurdles that are far greater than being picked on in a internet forum, yet their SELF belief and SELF motivation, drives them on to bigger and better things.

It is something that you have to want to do.

Many a great life has been made by breaking out of our day to day lives and taking on an adventure. You are in the perfect position to take advantage of it.

In years to come - if you don't take chances things will stay the same. Do you really want to have the same life as you have now when you are 30? 40?

EDIT: look at your own profile pic - "Desire - if you want something bad enough it will happen". Just remember it takes desire, HARD WORK, and a willingness to change to make things happen. Not just desiring it.

having owned and ran a car recycling business for 10 year, stripping car engines and gearboxes etc, there is no way in hell you would get those wages! The money that guys quoted you is probably what he makes a week, if he is lucky. You would need to process 10 cars every day of the week for 7 days to come close to it.
Been there done that.. your arms turn to rubber after a week of engine stripping, the average time workers tend to stay in the job. Also you will be black from the oil.....a woman turn off is also the asocciated smell.

Well if you stopped posting these idiotic threads asking the mob to decide for you, then ignoring the good advice and turning down good job offers, you may look less like an idiot.

Just for your information there are 22 people on KB who have posted more and some of them have been here only as long as he has.

I want to request a STOP to this shit right now - it's out of hand and is bad bad bad. Enough, people - please.
Most of us only know Mark from his postings on KB and his self advertising courtesy of that medium has been on many occasions less than impressive! John.

    God dammit.

I was just on the point of saying fuck it christchurch to, now i'm not so sure lol.
I know two people in Akld who will gladly take that job, at that pay rate.
Please PM me the owners contact details.
I'll take a 10% cut off their wages for six months, (as a finders fee), and they will still think I'm a legend.
Both have way more mechanical knowledge than a twenty something "pretend tradesman" (40 odd years of knowledge between them).
I will wait for the PM.

What were you doing so wrong?

I know 3 people in the industry who make exactly that sort of money, and a couple who make quite a lot more.

No please do enlighten me as to why i would say oh yes here sure just have the job i have been offered to give to somebody you know....

Why on earth would i do that?

If i do end up going to christchurch, yes i could certainly pass the details on, but i'm not putting them onto you because of the inappropriate way in which you requested the information.

This is if i do not take it...

    Entitlement issues mate.

    Mark.
There was a time in my life Mark when, I was faced with that very senario. At the time I was living in Rotorua, I was facing alot of issue's in 1999, My marriage had gone, my bussiness had gone, our house had gone, my daughters and ex moved to Christchurch, I was heavily (to me anyway) in debt, I had failing eyesight. Back on wages and working for a company that I didnt really like but had no toher choice at the time. I had an emotional cave in 2000 and needed to do something about it. A job offer came to me from Auckland...didnt really want to move Auckland to be honest, but I knew my time was up living in Rotorua, nothing there to keep me there. The move to Auckland was a good move looking back at it. Lived in Papatoetoe, was there for just on a year, but had met Anne while there and things have never been better. All that shit I was dealing with in Rotorua is almost gone. When you start to feel stagnent, best flush out the crap in your life and take any oppotunity that seems remotely better...worked for me.
PS: sorry about the spelling mistakes.

I still call bullshit, cos I'm 90% sure that the job offer will either:
    Fall through.
    Isn't fully legit.
    You will pass it up.
So as I said I'll wait for the details..................
Good luck on your move sth. Seriously.
(the military choice is also a VERY valid option), that would shut all us non believers once and for all.
