    SV1000S .. I must be a soft cock

Just got back from quick flick around the Coro-loop on the SV.
Cant hardly believe the mileage I'm getting. 49mpg or 17-18km/L
Thats just one full tank, 17L and 7 litres to top it up when I get home after doing 416km.
This is the 3rd check on fuel I've done and I constantly get this economy on long runs, I dont figure im going slow but in saying that I don't often rev it above 5-5500rpm, mind you thats 140 kmh in top gear, not that you get much time in 6th gear on the loop, a fair bit of 1st / 2nd gear stuff at times
I know you can talk about fuel consumption till the cows get home, but just wondering what other 1000cc V-twins bikes are getting to the litre/ mpg
I was always told I could expect to get 35-40mpg, maybe Im am a soft cock and not riding the bike to its limit, but I guess would have to be hammering it to get down to 35-40Mpg.
PS. no other vehicle / bike passed me all day, so I wasn't going that slow.

Congrats on the money your saving mate but bugger that, bit harder with the wrist and i think you will find it drops dramatically, although a little different than the TL the SV responds well to the "Give it shit theory" and imho a much better ride.Fwiw the TL is a sack of shite until about 6500 rpm then it sings.

Got very similar mileage out of mine on the weekend with a run over the Rimutakas, back roads of the Wairarapa, over the Pahiatua track and back down state hwy 1 to Wellington. Mind you was travelling by myself so no one to help push things along. Oh and no one overtook me either.
Well....it seemed like a good idea at the time....

    I'm getting 16-17 km/ltr commuting and 17-18 km/ltr touring.
Use engine breaking a lot (prob too much, luv the torque and backfire)
Have dropped in km/per ltr, though I think that was me being a nanna when I first got "Te Beast".
Hard acceleration seems to use more juice.

17km/l commuting in dorkers, 20 for spirited touring and in between for "rides".

the good fuel economy seems to be a "vtwin" thing. My GT650R does nearly 70mpg. Probably because ya don't have to rev it to get the job done, and coz its so much fun short-shifting it through the torque you do it all the time anyway.

    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

This i dont understand at all.To get the best out of any V-twin sports bike its all about revs.My TLS has dismal fuel economy but in some ways i would be disappointed if it did.

Hmmm - I'm getting about 15-17km/litre from my little 600...but then I just pin the throttle most of the time....

Who do you guys use for servicing in Dorkland?
About to do 24k service. Can do it all myself, but if I find valve clearance out, won't touch shimming.
Thanks for any refs. in advance.

I use to tour with a mate on a TL S, he was using 10 -15% more fue than me consistently....I was on a 148hp GSXR1100 at the time and we were NOT fucking around! He actually ran out of fuel 20kms out of Springs Junction(Lewis Pass) and I had to go pickup fuel for him!!! not impressed.......

As you say mate "within reason" chuck all the fuel in you like but if nothing is done to the airbox and exhaust you achieve absolutly nothing.Likewise the claims from some exhaust makers is absurd as in "simply bolt this on and blah blah blah hp increase"without attending to the other end its rubbish, only a very small increase will be made, cause im a sad old bugger with two much time on my hands and a Yosh ecu adjuster ive spent hours mucking about....the yosh box is a fairly basic thing and its all seat of the pants stuff but cans/full system/filters etc to me seem hardly worth it if only one is done.
