    Ginger on the case again.
Jeez we (I) was so lucky I picked up on him so early. Sadly I think it was me who brought him on the ride as I was trying to catch the bunch up. Westie cottoned on straight away as well and saved a few arses by holding him up.
    Big ups there mate.
    How about coming to Turangi?

The situation specifically to which I refer is tonight on the ATNR.
The cops were playing cat and mouse with us again, no worries, we know the risks and no I didn't earn myself a ticket, but on 3 separate occasions they tailgated bikes. Twice with lights on full and through some very tight twisties.
Be careful on the twisties as they did a Poshe (sp) driver for going over the posted speed on a corner, mind you he was doing 130 round a 75km/ph corner.

Isn't it both dangerous and entrapment when cops sit up your arse with their lights on high beam trying to goad you into racing?
Or is there another purpose to this dangerous driving technique?
Its not entrapment its tailgating and it is a $150 fine for doing it. So next time it happens pull over, let them pass, note the car's rego, get on the phone to *555 and report their bad driving.

Lol 130 is over the speed limit.

Well I was messing with him on the straights going real slow but hauling round the corners and losing him. He followed me for ages without pulling me over. Then mysteriously Around another corner I had dissappeared

Fuck that! I'd get all the riders together and report that.

touch your brake lights gently and wave them back off you with your spare hand. If they ignore you, raise a gloved finger real high and leave it there until they back off. Take great care not to break ANY law in the process of this. You pay your road user charges just like the next guy, and that means you do not have to "get the fuck outa the way" for anyone.

Don't do this with a non-pig car coz you will have a battle on your hands - probably one you will not win.

    What he said!
Follow up your phone call with an official complaint to the police. Bloody dangerous behaviour.

If this is true then report it even if you and your mates were being fuckwits, there is no excuse for the cops dangerous driving. If you were breaking the law you should have been ticketed otherwise they should leave you alone.

I think that was the problem, the cops said they hadn't been on the Thursday ride for a while and they were obviously looking for some action but there was a general lack of fuckwittedness.

The 2 tickets handed out were for bikes having their lights on full beam. Probably not the smartest move, but the guys were pissed at being tailgated by a car with thier lights on full beam, so returned the favour - well the full beam part anyway.

Given the basis of your question, I would recommend some caution before criticising others of being "pretty fucking dumb".

"Racing" or not is a matter of personal choice. If some nong is up your arse with their lights on high beam there is no imperative on you, as the driver of the car in front, to accelerate. I think you would have some difficulty pleading "entrapment" as a defence if you got nicked trying to outrun a Police vehicle that was following you.

Dangerous - yes, pull over, let them past get rego, place, date and time and ring it in. I've done it previously and will gladly do it again. If they have a record of doing this stuff it can be noted...

Unless they have the red and blues turned on I find it hard to imagine any reason for them to do this. Where, when? Day? Night?

It's a bit of a leap to say they were goading you into racing isn't it (but then - I wasn't there... so what do I know?)

edit - just read the rest of the thread. Sorry I wasn't there now.... that could have been fun.

If anything I'd say the imperative is your personal safety which would require you to pull over (speeding up is easily argued to exchange one type of risk for another, and then you break a law or two... for which you will be nicked).

Pull over, get rego, complain... through offical channels.

I still have a hard time with entrapment though - even if they did a u-turn etc. If they did that and sat back obeying the 2 second rule would that be different? I don't understand which part of their actions would specifically constitute entrapment

Well by all means Hitcher, offer an alternative rational explanation for this type of behaviour by the cops.
