Yes, non drivers can be donors.
No, they don't only harvest organs from road accidents.
Prolly best place to keep a signed and dated note of it would be in your wallet, or something where they might look if you were about to snuff it.

Good idea to kick it around with your family, although as said above, often family DO get quite funny about it, when the patient is incapable of speaking for themselves any more. Must be hell being a surgeon in that situation.

Was put on my license the first time it was available years ago.Thought it was a great idea, afterall I don't need them when dead.

Started already I donated my large bowel to cancer 4&1/2 yrs ago.

Know a guy who died suddenly after a horse accident,he was on life support and brain dead, his family were told he is a donor,is it your wish to donate his organs, they said no problem.Turned out he helped 4 people straight away, eyes, kidneys, lung and heart. The family were happy to be told how old the recipiants were, and met a couple later on.

Some of us don't just THINK it...

And it would be lovely should it be practical, that a register be kept of all those who blocked organ transplanting from occurring, that if they ever required a transplant, they get told to sod right off!

Of course, this is not practical... meah...

    Skin, skin is gold mate!

Yeah I am a donor too. Like others have said, I am not sure if anything of mine will have any useful purpose left when I pop my clogs, but use it they can!

worth a thought don't ya think
There are replies in the blood donor thread which basically cover that, especially one referring to the high quality of NZ blood due to their stringent criteria for taking it. Guess the same applies to organs (would make sense). It is a pity that people who medically are unable to donate, but who would otherwise wish to do so, can't find some alternative way of giving. Can't think of anything off the top of my head but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there in your situation (all those who've been in mad-cow-land for a start) who would be only too happy to help if some alternative to blood and organs can be suggested.
p.s. I am now a donor, I previously wasn't when our kids were younger. Now they're older and can understand and accept the necessity of it and they're cool with it, it is listed on my licence.

    me is a donor.

I quite like being able to make a choice to give my organs thank you very much and would have espessially rejected being a donor if the practice was to be automatically a donor if you didnt specify it.

I would have prefered to have options what parts you are willing to donate, I would like to keep my eyes. santimental reasons.

Roll up, roll up and take your pick - all my bits are on offer (once I'm dead that is), with the exception of my liver which I am sure noone will be desperate enough for, once I've finished with it! I agree that noone should be able to step in and overturn my decision to donate my organs. It's not like I'm going to need them, especially once I'm cremota'd.

    Yep.. I'm a donor!

Gave blood for the first time a couple of months ago too.. & that got me thinking that maybe I should become an organ donor as well.. then bugger me, I looked at my licence.. to find.. I already AM! (just don't remember already changing it!! )
