I think that as Kawhia is on the coast a good bottle of Captain Morgan will do the trick (but not with marmite sandwiches!).

Brent - it is all looking good, thanks

Think I might invest in a cask instead of a bottle - dont think the bottles handle the rough roads as well............

Nice day for a reccy ride.

So, since today was glorious, and the weekend may pack up, I headed sth to Harbour Rd to check the repaired bridge, and get some feedback from some farmers with regards to crossing their tracks for the coming ride.
Bad news is, it's too close to lambing for most, and most of the tracks are clay base and as we all know August in the Waikato can be a bit moist. BUT, no problems once they dry out, and theres a good chance of crossing 3 stations on only tracks. (mini CCA ride), so I will do some more home work for that ride.

Checked the bridge out, and headed for Taharoa via a few roads I like.
Dropped down onto the beach for lunch, and then headed home.
Life can be tough some days.

    Pic 1 All fixed. (buggar)

Pic 2 Things are already getting sloppy. Can't blame the cocky's for denying access till summer.

Pic 3 But there are still magic views, if you know where to find them.

Pic 4 Another load of Ironsand getting pumped on board. Love this coastline on a nice day.

Took advantage of the break in the sleet to check out these roads yesterday

This is a great area, with good gravel roads and pretty close to Hamilton.
Any idea on the dates for the ride yet.
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

    Date decided. 9/10 of August.

Sorry about the delay on the date decision. I'm going for the weekend 9/10 of August. Hope this will fit in with most of the crew.
I'll post up some route details over the next week, but if there is anywhere in particular that is of interest, please mention it. Hopefully the weather gods play ball, but if not the ride will still go ahead unless of course it's torrential, shitty conditions. I'll try and post a "go-no go" five days out.
Some Ham accom is available Fri, and Sun nights also.
So there ya go. Mark your calender and I hope to see you there, or on Clints Motu ride prior to that.
I hope both Ducatijim, and Bass can make it. There is bound to be some humorous stories about the Aussie ride.

Available Beds, mattresses, tent space etc.

Okay you lot, the divvy up of bed space/mattresses/tent n swag space begins
Kanny and myself have dibs on one of two twin rooms.(1 left).
    The double bed is available..
That means there is 2 single beds, and 1 double bed left.
there is four mattresses that will be strewn about the interior, possibly more.
The deck can sleep 3 people if the weather holds.(suitable for Thermarest mattress n sleeping bag n blankets), I have one canvas swag available,(ask xer about it's suitability)
Several tent spaces are available also.
Also, there are two couches inside, if need be.
There is about a Doz pillows there, and I'll take out extra blankets/pillows once the numbers are sorted.

Just bring a sleeping bag, and anything personal you may need.
The usual evening n breakfast feeds will be on. I'll do a booze/supply run out there a day or two previous, so orders will need to be in by the 4/8/08.
Most important: register in the Calender notice so I know you're coming, and put your hand up early for suitable sleeping arrangements.
Ask any Q's and remember it will be quite a bit cooler/darker than Kawhia#1.
I'm going to keep the accom cost at $20 (which goes to food/bach koha).
It would be nice to keep the numbers around the 10-15 mark, so that the riding is relaxed, and everyone gets bed space. Daytrippers, (not staying the night), are more than welcome like last time.

I'll be there in some form, overnight or day tripping......I just need to arrange a day release!
Now where's the application form.....the pink ones I think, with lots of writing and pleading space IIRC.
