I just phoned them, the swipe card facility also does Credit Cards and EFTPOS so we're sweet.

Good stuff, as offrd says, the Kaingaroa bit is vague & there is great potential to get lost in 2000 sq km of featureless pine forest, so I wouldn't post that one up until someone can log an actual track, hopefully that'll happen on the wekend. Also put a note with that route that before travel the Rangitaiki DOC office (ph 07 366 1080) should be consulted as it can be closed for logging or fire risk.

Just had a call from the proprietor of the Rangitaiki Lodge. Apparently the bunkroom has been flooded due to a burst hot water cylinder

But more beds have appeared in some chalets. Quite where these chalets were when I asked how many they could accomodate a week ago I'm not sure, but I am coming to the realisation that the complex intricacies of the Rangitaiki Plains hospitality industry are far beyond my humble understanding.

The upshot of this is that those staying at the Lodge on Friday night will be up for $35-$45 instead of $15-35, but you get a proper bed & a heater etc etc.

    Cheers

It looks as though we do have a good mix of bikes from the large (one at a time over a bridge) GS1200s down to much smaller (automatic blue smoke machine) Yamaha DT.

That alone should be good for many an argument long into the night on the merits of each bike!

Well, the fact that at last count we'll have:

    6x KTM
    4x Triumph
    4x Suzuki
    4x BMW
    2x Kawasaki
    1x Yamaha

    Should tell you something

Hearing 5 KTM twins & 3 Scramblers start up together will be a beautiful symphony fer sure!

Nice fat rain bearing low dropping out of Qld heading our way.
Wet weather gear needed. The Motu valley/Urewera could put on a bit on a shower or two.
    Rain?... Rain don't scare me.
