Hmmmm, not quite the same output as the modern 4 banger though

18 hp should be enough for anyone

With the right rider on board it has embarrased more than a few modern bikes.
Dosn't have the grunt to get past but can stick right up their chuff and then after the race "Yeah mate the old 500 goes well" when they find it's a li'll 250 the look on their faces is priceless

wasn't hassling the bike nordie, was just pointing out the difference in maintenance schedules between the old 4t & the new, there's a few more cams and valves that need fresh oil in the new 250f's

I'd be happy with either or. as anything would be better than what I'm riding. will have to win lotto i guess.
Why would you ride that long and that gnarly stuff if you don't have to, Its what we do, we love it.

    Isn't the CRF a unicam?
The '79 XR250 was a unicam 4 valve as well.

But the modern bikes do have more than double the HP and the piston itself is about 100th the weight.

I think with the modern 4st and 2st there is about the same amount of maintainance required. It's just with the 4st that maintainance takes a lot longer and can cost a lot more.

I know that look well; used to get it when I had the DR-Z250, mostly in the company of bigger bikes - like litre-class roadies:

"That 400 sure gets along well!"

    "It's only a 250..."

    Priceless, indeed!
    Cheers,

Will be gutted to see the 2t phased out
Its only the Japs that are phasing them out! Ktm is still very much in full on development mode with the 2t, so look out for a fuel injected 300 2t coming sooner then you think!!!

The huskys are ment to be a fast, hard bike, and very good (apparently), hope they are if you get one.

Be good for me if spectrum do that, they seem like good lads in there.

The 4T's are easy to ride fast (or slow), they sound great and they use less petrol. But . . .

I can't go past the way a touch of throttle on the 2T's snaps the front wheel up round your ears, and slides the arse out. At the same time. In 4th gear.

Sure that makes them hard to ride. But who gives a fuck? It's fun. If I wanted easy to ride I'd get a quad.

Edit: Ignore my avatar, I've not bought a quad just yet.
