Of course he was able. The front of his vehicle must have been some 10m behind the front of yours. Write in...it's only a bit of paper, envelope and stamp. And you never know, if your case is good, you could a pass.

A few years ago when working as a speed camera operator in Auckland I snaped a Taxi on Stanley Street doing 70. He came back after dropping of his fair and asked why had I taken his photo as he was a professional driver and I should be targeting people who were breaking the law (speed limit). I just said back to him that I was doing just that as I got a photo of him doing 70.

Okay, so I'm one of those that you all love to bag. Your call. But anyway, I'm a motorcycle traffic cop in Christchurch. There aren't too many of us, you may know me, whatever.

Last night at about 9.30 I was sitting on the company bike watching the Colombo St/Hereford St lights, when a Ford Falcon taxi (narrows it down to about 10,000) drove through a red light. It went red when the front wheels were 2 to 3 metres prior to the limit lines, the driver was accelerating to beat the lights. It was a cut and dried, ridgy didge red light offence.

Anyway, I followed (red and blue lights allow us to do that), having had a FULL, CLEAR UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW of the offence. Pretty clear cut. The taxi then failed to indicate turning a corner, and eventually stopped for me some distance further on.

I then got a lecture about how good a driver the driver was, how law abiding too, how I should go catch a boy racer or a gang member, how the driver hadn't had a ticket in 30 years, further details of the fabulous driving skills,more details of the advanced driving skills, etc. Oh, and it was orange.

Anyway, just the one ticket issued, the red light one.

I then got to ponder, yet again, the view that we all have our own driving ability. Today that taxi driver, who blew a red light and failed to indicate, will be telling all the clan about this nasty , revenue collecting man who wrote a BS ticket for such a law abiding, skilled driving member of the taxpaying public, one who pays my wages.

And I'll write the same ticket every time I see that offence, as people who crash red lights hit people sometimes.

Just venting.

As a taxpayer, I consider that my money well spent. Thanks

But the feline gentleman is a BIKEY cop. No radar on the bike (well, they were experimenting a while ago, but I haven't heard of any going live with bike mounted radar. Correct me if I'm wrong).

Hey all, Im an Irish rider slowly becoming more like a Kiwi , anyway I did an analysis of accidents and driver perceprions when in college and the finding support the above post,
80% of roadusers feel thay have above average skills on the road.
A similar proportion belive that the single biggest hazard to their safety is other road users, no argument on the ticketing if I did the same Id expect to get ticketed, but I want to pose a question, As bikers how safe do you feel when approaching a set of lights on orange, do you slow and stop and encourage the person behind you to launch you through the intersection? I had this experience recently, approaching lights saw they were yellow , saw the driver behind me was reavelling fairly quickly, I braked and moved to rhs and this numpty ended up beside me ,not fun..

Que? I read that as taxi drivers . and delivery drivers ARE the only ones limited to 50kph if not wearing a belt.

clauses (i) and (ii) are both subclauses of clause (d) - the law says people who satisfy clause (c) OR clause (d) are exempt from seatbelts, and then subclauses (i) and (ii) specify exactly who qualifies for clause (d).

So Taxi drivers are not limited to 50km/h.

150 seems to be the favrove number unsure of demrits looking at my ticket seems demerits are only given for speed

$150 + 20 demerits from memory.

There's shitloads of offences that incur demerits - but these are not shown on the ticket except for the ones on the speeding tickets.
