Firstly, condolences to the surving police officers involved and families and associates.
While many of us on KB don't always see eye to eye with the boys & girls in blue I think the majority of us on KB are appalled at the harsh actions dealt out by these P freak drug dealers. As others have pointed out, I don't think it would have made much difference whether these wankers knew the guys they shot/beat up were police or not - it's a sad statement on our society all round.

I don't have an issue with many drugs as by and large (and excepting the criminal element that gets involved) they are usually a victimless crime and don't cause nearly as much 'damage' to society as legal drugs such as alcohol and cigarettes. The bloke with a couple of wacky weed plants at the bottom of his garden is a long, long way from the likes of the perpetrators of todays crime. Most of us have come into contact with various drugs and/or their users over the years but I've never seen anything that causes so many problems for society as P, this stuff is damned evil.

I can't believe some of the thoughtless, tasteless and downright stupid statements from some on here, especially when you consider a lot of the facts are not yet known. FFS have the decency to let the families and friends grieve their loss and wait for the full facts before making your ignorant and groundless statements regarding this sad incident.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes

Thats rich coming from you who just writes the fucking ticket out. Thats what the detective said on the news. They guys are at WORK doing a JOB. When you DO your JOB you follow the fucken PROCEDURE or you DIE. Thats it. What the fuck was their support crew doing a WHOLE BLOCK away ? It goes without saying they should have been covered from across the street. Sharpen up or die.

I don't feel for them. I feel for their families they left behind though. Perhaps those on the job will start thinking about their own safety and their families instead of being so invincible. This bravado bullshit must end.

Yeah maybe. I'm not being mean about it. If it was your hubby dead coz hez not following the rulebook you would be mad. Really mad. They should think of their family, thats what I'm sayin.

It's not another martyred cop on a mission from god saving the children. It's someones family with no dad coz he knows better than the rulebook. He DOESN'T know better than the rulebook - He's DEAD because he was too smart for his own good. NOT smart - Dead - the permanent sort - the kind you don't get to argue about afterwards. Families need their dads, so cops sharpen up.

That coming from the biggest internet "tough guy" in New Zealand - fucken idiot.

(Like all of us) You know nothing about what has happened and your post is incredibly disrespectful to the officers who have been killed / hurt.

One day day you may need guys like this who are willing to put themselves on the line - so how about winding back the disrespect until you know some facts about it.

You are right I would be mad...I would also be totally distraught AND I KNOW that you wouldn't be posting that kind of comment on any thread that might've been created about his passing - whatever the circumstance.

Yeah I have bagged the coppers before and probably will again, but no one deserves death in the work place. I unashamedly admit to feeling my stomach sink when hearing the news today. Shit like this makes us all feel less safe.

Lets get this straight, you know absolutely nothing about the rules or procedures in place for these operations, so why on earth are you making out like you do?

Your just an ignorant little man talking ill of someone who did more in his life and contributed more to society than you ever will.

Stop wasting your time blaming the cops and their procedures. Sure they need to be reviewed, any underciver work with gangs and drugs should be backed up with reasonable fire power IMO, however please do remember the COPS WERE THE GOOD GUYS. It is the dumb fuck drug dealers and little south auckland hood rats who we need to make a stand against. It is time everyone stopped lying about whinging about them, and we actually do something about it. NZ is our land your home. Do what the history makers did and fight for it. Be that political or whatever. Sounds vigilante? It is. I am tired of their shit.
I have now been in Malta for 2 weeks staying with other people from all over europe. NZ is not the safe haven it once was, I base this statement onconversations comparing NZ standards to those of the other main cities in Germany, France etc.
If we want to regain and retain our once safe and prized peacefulness we need to do something about it now.
First off, I beleive ARM ALL POLICEMAN. I would be a helluva lot less sad over 2 dead criminal fuckin dealers than over a dead society protector.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
It takes a big man to cry...and an even bigger man to laugh at that man.

Here are some facts for you, Commissioner Useless Bastard....

"Tickets" have nothing to do with this... go play with yourself...

Procedures were followed. Plant the device in the quiet of night under the cover of darkness and go. Piece of piss, done hundreds of times before, without problem...

What is the point of doing a covert operation, with armed staff everywhere? Kinda makes it a little pointless. Since you won't understand, it was covert - heaps of cops around would give it away, don't you think?

The backup being a block away was probably too close... these arseholes have scouts looking out for cop cars in the hood and these scouts will phone their local dealer / supplier to give them a heads up - maybe what happened because the backup was only a block away and a little too close to the source, and they were able to react so quickly.......

"It goes without saying" they should have had a ninja covering from across the street? Set off the dog / sensor light and alert them to this too??? Good one...

What was "bravado" about planting a tracking device (in the small hours of the night?) It is something done many many times before.

Thinking of our own safety? Always...

Glenn MCKIBBIN, Murray STRETCH and Duncan TAYLOR just to name a few... were always thinking of their safety too, but hey, what could go wrong with stopping a speeding car, attending a burglary or trying to stop a stalker 16 year old????

So you don't feel for them - good on ya for showing your true human nature....

He wasn't a dad - he was single.

You really don't know shit from clay.......

Given the covert nature, I don't think that would be practical.

It's not fair to send what are essentially soldiers in a war out to what is the front line, without a weapon. I don't blame the police for that... they don't make policy, and I don't blame those officers for just putting up with the way it is and quietly going about their dangerous work unarmed.

I do however blame NZers for openly recognising that are police are in fact in a war with this type of criminal, but still not supporting arming 'our side'. I know it's a slippery slope, but given that they had a crew with guns round the corner, surely we're far enough down it already that those at the sharp end might as well be able to defend themselves?

If anything good could possibly come out of this, I hope that it includes the policy makers being a little more realistic about the need for the police to be able to fight on an even footing.
