Yes there can be a good reason.

A fire-engine or ambulance always has the right to move parked vehicles.

I wouldn't want my bike touched/sat on/moved, who does? I just wouldn't put myself in that position.

Thats just being a lazy ass or arrogant prick leaving it right where it is when it doesn't have to be. He deserved to get it moved.

    Yes, there is.

However, the people who can see that reason, are not likely to ever park their bike in such as way as to need it moved for a good reason.

    Exactly right
In the situation mentioned I think those involved did the best they could with what they had. I'd be interested to hear what the owner of the bike thinks, whether he has changed their behaviour at all, any of the SMC guys able to fill us in?

Only happened a couple of days ago I believe, didn't see the bike in there today

Personally I've never seen anyone park that stupidly, sure on the footpath but off to the side, but c'mon, in the middle?!

This post is in the general forum not the SMC. Its a valid question open to the general forum.

So most responses are "touch my bike and die".....when you can afford a real bike maybe you will understand ?

Haha, I can think of one situation where I park bang smack in the middle of a giant footpath (near a support pole so it is actually out the way) coz the nice Mr Security Guard told me to so he can keep an eye on it for me

    Meow!

My reference to the SMC guys was because this whole thread started from something that happened at A.U.
    See here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=83380

As I'd already said, I'd be extremely pissed and would definately have a go at anyone moving my bike without good reason, but if said people did in fact know what they're doing and did it carefully with good reason ie saving some retard towie who doesn't give a shit from damaging it then, thanks

Short answer, don't park like a moron in the first place and then no one will have this problem

I left my bike parked nicely next to a cheesecutter in the middle of the motorway and they towed it. The nerve!! Cost me $180 to get it back.
    Justified? Yes.

They moved a bike five metres because the dickhead left it in the middle of a walkway after being warned on several occasions not to put it there, he continued to do so knowing full well that he was fucking it up for everyone else who had worked hard to gain use of that parking area.
    Justified? Yes.

Despite the fact that there was even a link to the SMC thread in the very first post. Read the thread.

And it looks a lot more 50/50 as to responses either way.

But most of all, your comment about "affording a real bike" is fucking bollocks.

Any motorbike is just that. A motorbike, and deserving equally as much respect as the bike next to it.

That said, I consider a GPX to be a far more "real" bike than the anchor you ride. About the only thing that would stop me moving your bike would be the fact that I don't have a forklift handy.

Any bike can be it's owner's pride and joy. Unless it's a four-stroke.

I was about to reply in the same vein as PirateJafa.....but then cast my eyes towards MadDuck's infobar and saw what a "real" bike is.

    Suddenly the attitude makes sense......

There are circumstances where moving my bike without my presence and immediate knowledge would be tolerable.
    1. If I parked it dangerously/illegally (Like in front of a fire exit and there was a fire)
    2. If the emergency services needed to move it to get their job done, save lives.
    4. If I was too stupid or arrogant that after many warnings to move my bike from a specific footpath, someone with more brains than me respectfully and taking much care moved it to a safer location, I would be ok with that. I would even thank them that they didn't arrange to get it towed.

But thats just me. I would not touch another bikers bike though. Thats just asking for trouble.
I wouldn’t be broke if the voices in my head paid rent
