Dont f*ck with someone elses bike.
Park your bike with consideration for other riders.
If you move someones bike (picking it up) leave a note.

*exception to #1* If you ride a scroter and park like a complete moron, expect to find it moved. Learn to park like other bikers do, instead of using a cager mentality. (pet peev at work... blardy scroter parking sucks big hairy dog balls!)

Shit yeah. It wouldn't bother me at all if someone used to handling a heavy bike moved my one.

I can and will. If the car is unlocked and its a manual, I can slip the handbrake off and push it half a meter, re-apply handbrake - problem solved, no harm done. If the keys are in it and it has to be moved to let another vehicle out, then just do it if you are experienced at it.

You are guys are way to angry and territorial about this shit. No one is trying to deliberately smash whats yours. Lighten up, geez. I know you worry about someone dropping your baby, but as long as the person moving it is more careful/concerned/experienced than you, then you don't have much to worry about. Don't be so precious. And if you are going to make someone bleed over it, the only biker being an asshole is you. (unless they drop it, that is..)

Oh, and get a really huge scary-looking bike - NO one will touch that, no matter what. I wouldn't.

Still stick by the fact that if it ain't yours, don't touch it. I've never seen people hop in and shift someones car if its illegally parked eg: in a disabled car park so why shift someones bike if it ain't parked how or where it should be? It ain't yours, leave it alone. Personally I wouldn't touch anyone elses bike or car unless asked to by the owner. Its called respect, despite the fact that they lack it by parking somewhere they shouldn't have in the first place.

Yep I do this quite often too because I suck at parking. Just ask anyone who knows me.

Hmmm...once or twice but only if I cant be bothered walking too far.

Personally I dont think it is right to touch anyone elses property without permission be it a bike or anything else......
So by your own admission you suck at parking, you would prefer the owner/manager of the car park/council property etc say fuck you, calls a tow truck, they toss the bike on take it away and store it for you to collect (all at your expense) OR a group of motorcyclists move it carefully to a better position?
Because from the looks of your reply you best be prepared for it.

Maybe others think it's not right to abuse privilege and to park like arseholes on their property. Were it me in charge of a parking facility and some nob was fucking things up I would call a tow truck and tell them to sort it quick smart.

We used to do this all the time (would happen once a week on some sites) when on building sites in town.
People rock up at 10:00 in the evening park in front of the site not realising that whilst it's not busy now, that work does actually go on there by day. Then they go get pissed and leave thier cars across the site entry and return to find it elsewhere next afternoon.
You have to get a concrete truck in or a load of steel etc. The car just goes any way we see fit, chain it to a truck, strop it to a tower crane, whatever works.

some dick parking in a disabled park compared to some dick parking in the middle of the footpath cant really be compared. the dick parking on the footpath could see all bike parking revoked from all bikes. the dick parking in a disabled park will NOT see all car parks revoked from all cars.

if theres a valid reason to move my bike, thats fine. any other reason, then at least tell me so i can come and supervise.
id never move anothers bike by myself, but i have been damn tempted to kick a few scooters over. seriously, one scooter parked smack in the middle of a bike park leaving no room for anyone else is asking for trouble. mostly, though, i park a block away and walk. i did once see a scooter parked on the yellow angled lines by a disabled park once. he was just begging for it to be knocked over by a car door.

i do park on the footpath if im going to be only a few mins, and i make sure im parked as far out of the way as possible. normally theres never any parks outside the place in question, hence the parking on a footpath. i dont see the point in parking 10 mins away to drop off a sheet of paper.

    Interesting.
It seems the common theme is people don't want others touching their property, with a corollary that if you behave like a real dick and/or there are exceptional circumstances, you risk losing your rights.

I can understand that, and agree with it. I don't like people messing with my stuff, but I 'd rather it was touched/moved than have it damaged due to not being moved. Of course, if it was damaged anyway by being moved, that's another story.

I've moved scooters that were parked "any old how" and preventing others from using a park, and I've picked up bikes that were knocked/blown over. I dunno that I'd move a bike though. The last time I was tempted to move a scooter, it was parked smack dab in the middle of a carpark, and I was *so* tempted to move it, but it was one of those fancier ones that borders on being a bike, so I left it alone and parked elsewhere.

I guess it's that old "do unto others as you'd have them do unto you" thing.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I always try to park considerately. There is really no excuse for joe public to have to touch my bike but I am constantly astounded at many times I will be sitting having a beer/coffee etc (bike in view) and have to yell out to a complete stranger "get your hands off!". They see the paint and they wanna touch!

    Inappropriate pawing is not tolerated.

I'm +1 for the don't touch my bike (unless its an emergency - making room for an ambulance / firetruck etc).

Having said that - I don't park like an ass anyways.

Upshot is - People have no right to move other peoples 'stuff'.

The people moving it (I'm sure) wouldn't be willing to take the responsibility and financial hit if they were unlucky enough to drop it.

DB says he has no issue if the person is familiar with moving heavy bikes - I'm sure that plenty of people have dropped their own bikes - why couldn't this happen to someone else?

    So my questions are:

If you are someone willing to move a bike and you dropped it - would you pay all cost for the damage?

If you are someone thats OK with it being moved (Looking at DB here) and they dropped it - would you expect them to pay for any damaged accidentally done?

That's really the deeper meaning here. Someone moving a sportsbike who drops it - not their insurance, and who has $3-4K to pay for damage fairings. Sorry mate just doesn't cut it. Hence, full circle, back to don't touch my fucking bike.
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

Might be worth a get-out-of-pink-hell-free card if you're lucky.

Oh and much "Lol"ing at some of the internet tough guys in this thread.
