We,re headed to Reefton sunday via Porika etc if anyone is headed that way, Got kinda interested in that Big river place , going to have an explore around there monday
What time from Nelson?
What route?
Possibly going up the Wairau , will know tomorrow
Got to pick a key up at Rainbow round midday so 12.30 -1 pm
I'm probably going to have a little explore up Sunday Creek/Panic Mac etc and down the Upper Stanley Brook side road and see if it's rideable through to Stanley Brook this afternoon.
Well that didn't go strictly according to plan...![]()
No......
But some tyre levers would come in handy.
My mtb ones are not up to the job as they're plastic and 10cm long.
I think the tyre walked on the rim andsplit the tube at the valve stem when I braked to a stop at a gate 5 or 6km down Upper Stanley Brook Road. It was fine on the way down but mushy turning and on the way back it was flat. I sat on the rear guard and rode it the 20-25km to the Spooners Lookout and walked it down the hill where Jenni picked me up in the van.
2 people stopped while I was pushing the bike. 1 to ask me for directionsand 1 to see if I was OK
The front tyre is pristine with no signs of any holes and the heavy duty tube had a load of true-blue-tyre-goo.
I'm installing a rim-lock on Monday.
I'm thinking of doing a night run into harwoods hole on thursday night, any other takers?

GO BRO GO
That actually sounds quite good![]()
Weather and wife permitting I will be catching a ferry down to Picton on the 18th Nov and aiming to have lunch at Pelorus Bridge followed a blat through the Maungatapu and off to Richmond to meet Struan (XF650) before heading down via Porika to Murchison for Tuesday night.
Struan and I will then spend Wed Thurs Fri exploring the tracks in the Murchison/Reefton area most probably staying in Reefton so we don't have to carry much gear with us.
We were planning to hopefully include the following:
(all lifted from Ryans excellent site)
New Creek to Denniston - Maybe on Wed on way to Reefton)
Waitahu River
Big River
Napoleon Hill
Gows Creek
Lake Hochsetter
Mount Fox
We are interested any other (polite) suggestions you guys might have on other tracks or if any of the above are too knarly for the KLR and its pussy rider (Struan will be on the DT230)
Our plans are super loose and weather dependent but anyone is welcome to tag along.
cheers
Mark
Sounds like a good 'un. How much of a hurry are you to get to Murch? as in, will you have time for detours between Richmond and the Porika?
Cheers,
Colin
