One thing Katman does do is keep saftey (or the lack of it) at the forefront on a bike site which for my money is a worthy thing,if you agree with his opinions or not is somewhat irrelevant as the very act of reading his threads raises the issue in your head.As a bloke whos been riding many years and had a few offs in my time some my own fault entirely some with other influences i hadnt allowed for ive found that between not liking extreme pain and a genuine love of life its made me particular about where/when i have my fun.All in all i say good on him and if it makes someone think then as i said its worthy of doing.Oh and by my admisson of "other influences i hadnt allowed for" i am admitting that looking back i should have as in all these years later with a few miles under my hat i do.Will at the same time admit to the odd moment of craziness still.

Katman does do a good job with safety. He has his own terminology with his words

It's a great road to ride - I did it this morning myself and do it reasonably regularly.
Watching the vid, I have to say I did not think it looked that fast but such footage can be very deceiving. I wouldn't be prepared to make a call on that. Nice view of the arse end of a muffler though.......
The route through Scotsman Valley Rd is not that long. I haven't timed myself through it but it does not take a long time, even at the pootling speed I ride it.... Quite a lot of this footage was of the route leading into and out of the actual run itself.
Overall, I would have to say I have watched worse videos than that in terms of lunacy promotion. But in fairness to Katman, I believe he was making a valid point when he started this thread......myself, I can't be bothered watching these vids for more than about ten seconds - they get boring real quick.....and they don't have any influence on my riding...but then I am old enough to know I am not indestructable....

I can hear the answers already.........

"I'm trying to showcase New Zealands natural beauty" - bullshit, you'd go slower.

"You're never going to stop new rider from being idiots" - maybe, but we sure as fuck don't need to encourage them.
This coming from a guy whose admited hes sped in a safe manner when it suits.

    Pffff!!

Well, I paced out some power poles on my way home at 70 metres apart.

The roadside marker pegs are 20 metres apart.

    Anyone up for some calculations?

As long as you're sure that the distance between power poles is universal, country wide.

There's a guy that goes around the country who checks to make sure the distance is correct by pacing them out .

100km/h is 27 metres per second i think.

funnily enough, did you know that you can legally follow someone at a speed above 70km/h, at a distance of 28 metres?.......

Some good points for and against, but I certainly do not need someone telling me riding around 45km bends at 90km is fine,or do I want to try and do it,if I happen to see it on youtube.

And yes I have sped in the car and not as often on the bike,if my wife is on speed kept to say 110km,any faster tap on ribs to slow down.We all have a brain, just some forget it when helmet goes on,and bike is started, that scares me.

Maybe the surgeon should have just shot me in the head then?
