Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down ones life for his friends. (John 15:13)
No offence intended FL but thats a load of crap, the WNR's orginise themselves. The only thing linking Phoenix to them is the first post on a public forum. Yes I know he may have innitiated them origionally but I hardly see how that can end him up being prosicuted for someone elses cock-up. Hell, they only need to browse this thread to see it's not a race!
Again, just making a point. Please don't be offended...![]()
the simple fact the 'he' stands there and breiefs the riders with the intended rout, that makes him an organiser... now remember when the coppers get a bee in their bonit and they will if there is a death just like the Akaroa cycle race... they will want and they will get some poor buggers balls in a sling.
cheers DD
(Definately Dodgy)
Well those last few pages have been a real. Quite funny seeing the bites but more unfortunate that there's the prob in first place...guess that's life and people.
As far as the WNR's go, I've never been. My reasoning to date is my lack of knowledge roads and severe lack of skill in riding especially in low light.
I have found on the few group rides I've done that at the back is for me. I got caught in the front group once but let my ego keep me there rather than falling back to a safe place. I know there are a million posts here saying ride to your limits...please bash me if I look like I'm pushing it.
Bigto Dangerous on the Magpie ride down. I felt very happy in my little group and impressed with the stops to check all were rubber side down and would happily tag (at the rear) along any rides he leads or has a part of.
I'll stay out of the politics and shit fight and just ride my own ride. If the WNR's look like they would suit my level I would love to come along and meet the rest of this crazy crew
Enough babble, ride safe everyoneOh, an honest cheers to Phoenix for his effort with the WNR's too
No offence taken Steve. But if it happened as dangerous says, and my fiance is prosecuted for something that is not his fault, the person who caused the problem better heal so I can deal to them myself and make the rest of their life a living hell.
Well I intend on still riding on weds. In fact I think I rode better after the accident. Just more aware I guess.
Gold Diggers....like hookers just smarter
I recon this (words in bold) is a key point. Many need to remember that when, not if, something goes wrong cause of their attitude/actions, it had far wider reaching impacts than just the pain they cause themselves. Personal responsibility and respect for others are extremely undervalued virtues these days.
I agree with TA, either split into two separate nights or have two distinct and separate leaving times. Cause of the social aspect of this ride I'd suggest that the latter is the most appropriate idea.
A serious suggestion, picking up on an earlier comment, see if the two wheeled coppers are interested in joining in on the ride. I'm sure they would be more than happy to pass on some advice and ya never know they might collect a bit of revenue for up keep of the roads. If people dont like it then those people should seriously think about why the ride on the Wednesday Evening Cruises.
There is no need nor reason for this sort of shit to happen. Those with maturity and experiance should not tolerate this sort of shit. It this means being blunt, so be it as it is the only way to get though to some people. I'm all for the "Dangerouse" approach when necessary.
Cheers R

Can I agree too?
That was an excellently planned and paced ride. Im looking forward to the Woodstock ride now.
Kids and a shift worker hubby prevents me attending the WNRs.
But what I have read of late in regards to them, its like they not much fun and a bit intimidating. Unfortunately, the larger the group, the harder to please, and there is always someone who knows right regardless.
I get my kicks with riding with some of the ChCh girls at a lesurley pace during the week, like tomorrow - the 3 gorges. Less traffic. Less presure.
Live your life in such a way,
that when your feet hit the floor in the morning,
Satan shudders & says....'Oh shit!....she's awake!!'
Hmm this has serious connotations, I hope for your sake that your aren't.
Keep hearing this word ability, meaning what - Able to ride fast? Able to ride safely? A combination of both is what does it for me. Fast enough to get a thrill but safe enough that I will get home in one piece. But sometimes you have to push limits, and that is part of how we learn. Following competent riders is part of that process and should be encouraged. It has certainly helped me get back in the groove fairly quickly.
Staggering the rides into bike genres or cc ratings and a learners class makes sense, there is nothing more tedious than following someone who rides at a slower pace than you do, because you not only have to concentrate on the road but also the rider in front of you - because they are unpredictable in comparison to how you would react in the same situation.
Unrelated to the Incident (not accident as it was preventable), but something I have noticed on the WNR's is that leisurely riders should be aware of who / what is behind them, and not go out of their way to become obstacles. If someone catches up to you it generally means that they travel quicker than you do
Forgot what the point of this post was - just wanted to contribute![]()
I wonder if a 2 wheeled cop would actually come...I think we should ask anyway.
I think the current plan works fine, fast group leaves, then the slow group, sure we've had 2 accidents that didn't need to happen, but you can hardly blame the time the groups leaving as a cause, this isn't chaos theory, it's just a ride, things happen there's only so much you can plan for, if we ride in any formation something will eventually go wrong and then we'll be back at square one.
one thing you can blame is the numbers of people, but thats just simple probability, if you shoot enough bullets at a target sooner or later you will hit it, if you send enough bikes around the hills sooner or later one will crash.
I think things such as the first aid kit are a fantastic idea, I'll be putting something into that, I DO NOT think the wednesday night ride is the best place to learn, but it is the best place to meet people to talk to about learning, Bren, Dangerous, Lemans, Jmemonic, wofman, izzy, have all spoken to me, talked me through things, taught me things, and if it hadn't have been for the wednesday night ride, or even KB I'd never have met any of them, fuck I'd probably still be trying to get around corners without leaning on the 150 if it hadn't been for these people.
I met spuds1234 through wednesday night rides and he's my flatmate now!...and a drunk one at that.
but because they've all helped me out I'll be riding far into old age (not that you chaps are old or anything) helping out the youngins when it's my turn, sure I might have to help some fucktard who stuffed up the top corner of dyers pass, or did something wrong in latimar square, but I'll think back and remember how I was helped when I was young.
damn I thought up a real good concluding paragraph but forgot it....
so, where are we off to next week?
i intend to continue coming on the rides when i can,as i enjoy the rides and meeting the people who so far have all been great.i purposely brought my 125 this week because i dont want to ride fast,am just happy doing 100-110 kms an hour(round corners as well though)ive done plenty of racing on racetracks,i have nothing to prove at all.
i think the novice riders get pretty freaked out by some faster riders carving them up,such as seems to be the case in this weeks crash.personally i think those inconsiderate riders should take a long hard look at themselves, and preferably not come back unless they are going to ride with consideration for others.i have no problem riding wheel to wheel with other riders-on a race track-not the road.thats what trackdays are for.
having said all that if the "fast"guys want to race on ahead,go for it,(sometimes i might decide to come too on the RG)just keep out of the way of those who prefer to ride slower.
its all about respect for others IMHO.![]()
