Tikotiko - it changes Counties half way along, which is pretty obvious as it changes to seal at the boundary. In my week on these roads the hardest road was the little bit of gravel left on Churchill Rd (from Rangiriri to SH22) - it was thick with fine and course gravel, and more work than it looked. It was fairly easy to take lines to miss the tar - but on Rotowaro Rd it was wet from shoulder to shoulder....I took to the grass on that one.
On my ride to Awakino and back I counted 4,000 corners - there are definitely more corners west of SH1 in the Waikato than anywhere else.

Yep, yesterday was the optimum bike day... but lines through the tar? There was no melted tar anywhere on the Aucks - Coro Loop. The overcast skies all day had made it a stunner of a day to clock up the k's.
What I couldn't figure out was the lack of traffic especially bikes. Maybe it was the threat of rain at the end of the day that kept them home. I did get the torrential downpour 10 minutes from home.

I was thinking that at the time,it is how SH22,the Coro loop and Kaiaua loop used to be.But then I had a look at the perfect roads - no,no sprotsbike rider would dare ride these roads....there was too much to complain about.I guess they might ride them just to start a thread about the shocking state of West Waikato roads, and that might keep other riders away.

I did plenty of miles too......puke to new plymouth and over to the coromandel and back over two days. used the windiest back roads i could find as well.........
never been to new plymouth before so loved the gorge and the mountain thing. great roads and hardly any traffic........and heres the big surprise........car drivers waving me past and being courteous and stuff.....amazing
and like dave........no problems
no close calls
no road rage
no cops
no hassle
biggest problem i had was hitting a possum leaned over round a corner causing a sideways skip.........all good.
Good news is still good news eh?
Nice going Bloss.
I think you got it so good cos they were all down in the South Island. 3500km over the last couple of weeks and I've had a few close calls.
Lets see...there were campervans, cow s**t, suicidal sparrows, potholes, melting roads (the bike fell over from its side stand when the stand went through the seal!), wind, a massive eel (when i was swimming in the river), Peter Brocks biggest fan in his Commodore, and a car overtaking a car towing a boat just before a blind corner.
Despite all that though one hell of a good ride that left a grin across my entire face and roads, scenery and company that more than made up for the close calls.
