All makes of bikes break down and wear dont they?
I noticed on the Waiouru Army trail ride last year that the army hold Kawasaki 650's(if thats anything to go by). They obviously have some pointers to go by when they buy products - reliability being one of the main factors I should imagine.
It would be interesting if a company like John Deere or Caterpillar start producing dirt bikes - and just how much R&D they would put into a project to come up with a winner.
Anyone have any experience of what the BMW dirt bikes are like?
The quality of engineering that comes out of Europe is just as good (maybe better) as what the Japs can offer I'd say.And who knows - maybe in 5 yrs time the Chinese brands will be on the international MX circuits. If they want to succeed in the market they will have to evolve and improve their product( I have visions of Chinese team running around picking up bits of bike all over the track at the moment lol)!Imagine the commentator shouting that Villopoto has been knocked out by a flying luxury exhaust pipe!
By the way - hows the bike going mx4life?
Whether you think you can or cant - you will always be right.

That of course provides perfect chain adjustment - no matter the position of the rear wheel.
It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.

    Ha ha brand fight!

This is all second hand info that I've heard. I'm not Wikipedia, not that that is very accurate often anyway with its 600 words being added per minute.

I think that Honda is the largest engine manufacturer in the world, not just Japan.

Also I was told that the Suzi Kawa merge on the 04 and 05 4 strokes was to try and catch up to Yami and Honda.

Steel frames - also from what I've been told, some people like them better (not me!!) as they have more flex. I'd rather have something that doesn't rust thanks. Also most bikes are Ali cause Steel is really expensive in Asia now? Not sure about that one. Don't know about KTM, but they are chromoly (spelling??).

One of the Chinese bike manufacturers are currently working with Honda (I think) and are racing a bike in the Japan (I think) MX series. I think that it was doing ok and making reasonable places - I saw it on the internet somewhere so it must be real...... LOL

Government contracts, especially military ones, often have quite complex administrative requirements and fiddly modifications behind the sale. It's not necessarily anything to do with the product, and all to do with documentation etc. The US military uses KLRs (some are built in the USA, which helps to explain the Americans' fascination with them) so it was probably very easy for Kawasaki & the military here to say, "we'll have some of those, please" rather than go through the whole process with a different bike.
    Cheers,
    Colin
