Youll need different springs in the forks. Mate of mine did the exact same conversion on his Kat 750.
Given its only us old farts that actually know what a katana really is I'd suggest putting the fairing off of one of those jap import Katana 250's or 400's on it. Stick with the retro look.
You might still get pinged by a testing station and need an engineers on the forks/brakes but if it looks origonal the chances are less
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?

Yeah hopefully won't have an issue with testing stations...

Nah not going to run a fairing, leaving her as is for now just stock round headlight.

Do some research. The 550, 650 (skidmarks one) the 750 and 1100 came out about the same time altho if memory serves me correctly the 650 and 1100 came out first with the 550 and the 750 joining them the following year. All very cool bikes and i want one...

Now i want one (a 650 that is) with a red frame...

Skiddy - I have a shitload of phase/colour shifting paint at home that might do the job - spray cans already. Black through green/silver I think it is...

I'm sure we can find a good price...
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details
