    Only 385 kms today.

The first tank it seems was mixed incorrectly and cracked up (multiple). (QC ?)
The replacement tank had a obvious defect which was smoothed over where it leaked within three weeks and 2000 kms. (QC ?)
The jacket was defective (0 waterproofing) but it was the dry season when i got it,i have ben told to send it back to the USA. (QC ?)
The Ohlins was defective when i received it. (QC ?)

I'm pushing 50 so can't be that hard on parts.

This is the climb after the water crossing and the one that stopped me last weekend when it was bucketing down and coming the other way.
The level and width had dropped so in went the DR.

I only made it to one airstrip before a storm came in.

    13 37 23.46 S 131 20 19.60 E

    Roll on next weekend.

Put a coil spring around it (much like you see on some brake hoses). If the spring is a little larger than the hose it will hold the hose away from whatever is making it hot and the air gap will keep the hose a bit cooler.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

    cheers.

    You should be OK.
Have had a Safari on for nearly a year now and never noticed this, but then I've never looked for it either.
Did 18,000 k around Oz in 2 months and had no problems and so I don't think that you need to worry too much.

    Hi Bass
what gearing are you running, and what sort of range are you making on a tank.

I run a length of heavy wall FI hose over it.

The above pic is before i removed the carb and turned the inlet pipe to a flatter angle so reserve is useable and repositioned the hose clamp .

Without the hose you need to watch out that for the band clamps on the carburetor inlet digging into the stock hose,i turned them anyway and use small zip ties to hold the fuel line in place.
I would also remove the two metal brackets that secure the cables and wiring at the steering head (now secured by big zip ties) those brackets will dig into the foam cushion on the Safari tank when it sags.
I would also keep and eye on the alloy bar where it rests on the cylinder head, the insulation will not last long before it starts to wear on the head and induce more vibration.

    Indeed,Corbin was AU$722.
I never got round to refitting the side covers after fitting the Ohlins, the exhaust might get a little more cooling flow but will put them back on when using pannier bags.

A replacement Safari tank that replaced the first replacement Safari tank (three in total) arrived a couple of days ago but i am to nervous to open the box encase it is another dud.

Yip thats bang on what i was talking about.
i have tilted the inlet pipe on carb, on a flater angle towards the airbox, still slighty raised.
the tank still has factory taps on, and replaced the rubber O rings to day, you have smaller taps, and hose it a little higher, will look in to it.
a pic of my set up.
    cheers for your time.

Those are different taps to what i have for sure (sediment bowl)
Maybe the previous owner changed them, the stock Safari taps are fairly low budget but the left hand one is of better quality compared to the right hand one.

as far as i know there factory taps, i printed a tap service sheet off the safari web site, and it matched up piece by piece, i had to replace the rubber O rings in each tap.

im going to redesgin the front mounting bracket, its just no good sitting on the front of engine, unless its the wrong part, ( home made one ) ill make my own one up.
did 791kms on our 2 day trip, i used just under 2 tanks.
im geared down a little, so bike was reving a bit harder than norm.

fuel line got a bit warm, but not probs, and no leaks..

Standard 15/42 ? on road. Not certain if current rear is 42 or 43
Modified 13/42 off road. Circlips only on countershaft - no locking plate. So front sprocket change is about 5 minutes and I can still run a riveted chain.
The range is the surprising one.
Provided that I can get out of first gear, the range is around 700km regardless of the terrain.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.
