Conquiztador, why does your mate need a car? Tell him to swap it for a motorcycle. Sorted.
Needs it for when he has the kids. And also to carry the tools in.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

So basically he has a job, a car and a divorce; is that it?

Look at it from the bankers perspective: He's got a lot to pay for and nothing to cover for it. It is a high risk operation so it gets high risk interest rates.

Now, if he had a close relative with some property that could guarantee the loan, that may change things. I don't know the english words for this. It is not that he is putting a mortgage on his relative's property, but that his relative is legally bond to return the money if he fails to do so. It's quite common here for young people to be covered by their parents when buying their first car.

Do not use a finance company. If he is going to get a loan, shop around, find out the going rates for the different lenders because the finance companies generally charge higher % p.a. than banks do on credit cards.

    Also.. Another couple of questions...

Can he down trade his car to free up cash for bike or at least deposit?

And ultimate question is; does he have any disposable income to actually service a loan?

That can work out, but if it doesn't its a fast way to lose a good friend. Is it worth it?

Don't do money with friends! Do piss drinking, motorcycle crashing, dope smoking, girl sharing, cop avoiding, crop growing, or anything you like, but don't do money.

    Term is "Guaranteur"

My take on this....if someone needs your help to get into debt because they can't do it themselves, they will be in over their heads, no matter how much he wants a bike.
