Can I borrow a wof legal tire?

    Hey guys,

After almost getting a ticket yesterday I realised that I would be getting $800+ in fines so I really need to get a wof and a rego, but dont have the dosh for a tyre....

150/80/v16 is the tyre type I think.

I will only need it for about 20 mins :P

Any help would be great. (I would offer beer but I dont even have dosh for a six pack )
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Go see Kerry at MotoHaus. He's hell bent on making sure we keep safe, and he's a top bloke. He's always said he'd help out with arrangements to make sure you don't go bald. Especially in weather like today.. Even if you ask if he's got any older tyres that someone has ditched

Here's an idea, and please don't take it the wrong way. Sell your GPZ1000, and buy a bike that you can afford to ride and maintain. Your life may depend on it.

I would be shit scared to ride a bike with a tyre below wof standard. The tyre is unsafe way before it is worn to that extent. Just look at the profile. It will have 3 flatish sections with a sharp ridge between them. The handling will be shit, and the amount of grip uncertain to say the least.

As for borrowing a tyre just to get a wof... forget it. If a had a suitable tyre I would give it to you, but never lend it knowing what you would be putting back on the bike afterwards.
    Time to ride

Yep you were very lucky weren't you.......!

BTW the cop didn't even look at the WOF or Rego on my bike.
    Just my license......

Go and buy a new tyre......

cos I saved you $230 bucks yesterday.
As I got the ticket and the copper told me he was also after you as well.
Unless you want to give me $115 for half the ticket...

If so that has to be (said in best Neil from The Young Ones voice)"the like stupidest of really really really stupid ideas man."

got to agree with the consensus here, no excuse for having shite rubber - it literally keeps you on the road, not in it.

Concur with what has been said so far.

There is nothing to stop the policeman ticketing you for your bike not being up to WOF standard when you put your shite tyre back on.

As also said, most tyres are cr@p when they get to the WOF limit, and will not pump away standing water fast enough at any speed, let alone 100km/hr.

I know the police flick their bike tyres at 3mm.

    Get a new one man.

    jesus.

    i'm with jantar.
FFS - try to impersonate a grownup and keep your bike off public roads you share with me and my family until it's safe.
Surely you're not stupid enought to borrow a tyre to get a WOF and then put an unsafe one back on?

Can you imagine what would happen if you did as you planned and had an accident and were killed? Who do you think the police would be talking to first - yes, more than likely the poor bastard who gave you a WOF. There are enough dodgy vehicles on the road without you advertising that you want to join them. If the tyre you have on now is that bad it won't pass a WOF, it didn't get that way overnight so you should have budgeted for a replacement.

I can just see the outcry if a car owner posted a similar thread, you'd be up in arms saying how they were putting your life at risk.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

That is some bloody good advice right there, advice you should seriously consider.

I picked up a second hand rear tyre for me bike for $50 from Cycle Treads, it was second hand, but near new condition, had huge chicken strips.

Anyone can afford $50 if the try hard enough.

If you are that strapped for cash go and wash car windows at the traffic lights in Auckland.

There is no excuse for having no money, opportunities are EVERYWHERE.

    Ditto what everyone is saying.
You only have 2 pieces of rubber connecting yourself with the tarseal...

We do not want to see another "biker down" thread if avoidable.

Agree with all the advice given. You would have to be stupid to ride with a stuffed tyre purely for your own safety let alone anyone elses. And if anyone is silly enough to lend a tyre think how you'll feel if he winds up in hospital. (Mind you I'm guessing from the attitude to safety it'll happen anyway)
