May get extra distance from 91, but 98 is more bang for the buck... still only costs $20 odd to fill the tank so who cares eh?

Like Jim2 I have been keeping a record of Fuel consumption to compare Shell with other brands.
My results to date are:
Fuel type Litres Distance Km/l Average
Unknown 20.29 288 14.19 14.19
Shell 91 19.21 288 14.99
Shell 91 17.64 230 13.04
Shell 91 15.26 245 16.06 14.70
Caltex 91 16.99 253 14.89
Caltex 91 6.45 84 13.02
Caltex 91 18.00 260 14.44 14.12
Because my second fill with Caltex was only a top-up I'm currently giving it one extra tank of Caltex 91 before going back to Shell 95. The top-up was because I'd just fitted a center stand to the bike, and I believe that it may allow me to get an extra half litre or so into the tank.
Time to ride
I found the best way to improve my fuel economy was to loose 25kg in weight. Constantly get 145 miles out of 12 litres now.
I find BP98 is the best for my bike, closely followed by Mobil 8000.
Can someone try Gull on these tests, or don't they have them down your's way.
When I had my oilburner the Gull Diesel was heaps better(imported), also has only 300ppm sulfer when all the others thort they were really cool when they got their down to 3000 ppm sulfer.
I get 450Ks/ Tank of 98 in my Subaru, tried 91 and only got 400Ks and didn't run right.
ZZR 400 98 gas 190Ks, 91 gas 235Ks/tank, same amount of fuel.
I have found if I put my bike on the centre stand when filling I get more ks to a tank.
Work Harder
Millions on welfare and ACC depend on you!
Using 98 ultimate in my '55 F100 hot-rod 'lorry' I get 18mpg (you young guys will have to figure it out) which is pretty much the same as a turbo 2006 Ford Explorer - with a SHITLOAD more horsepower and torque.
Won't even run on 91.

I've been using 91 in the Gixxer since I bought it, havn't had any hassles as a result, though in saying that I havn't actually tried 96 or 98 to compare. Get about 250kms off a tank full of 91.
theres a gull in my town, but i dont trust them. i run on bp 91 and generally get 262k to a tank [reset tripmeter each fill] havent tried any other grade or station [least not enough to get proper comparisons] so not sure. i think 95+ would funk up my bike since she isnt tuned for anything other than 91. even when i have to use a different station/brand, im more intune with the bike at those times, feeling for any changes in the running.

the really happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery when on a detour.
Running 95 in the Ginny will not hurt it. There just be no advantage, that's all.![]()
