Smile #2 Thought of the day

    The Invitation..

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or yours, without moving to hide it, fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or yours, if you can dance with wildness and let ectasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, realistic or to remember human limitations.

It doesn't interest me if your story is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it is not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from it's presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the moon. "yes!".

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truely like the company you keep in empty moments.

    GET ON
    SIT DOWN
    SHUT UP
    HANG ON

I'll get back to you... bit early in the morning, brain hasn't absorbed the coffee just yet...

(But, yeah, I'm a dreamy old fool, somewhat shrivelled and faded, staring at the moon...)

Nice to know you don't care what I do for a living

Or how old I am (your dad?).

And yeah, I CAN risk looking a fool - and can 'dance' with wildness.

    But my story IS true.

And I CAN see beauty. (but I can also see ugliness that goes to the bone).

Failure? - yeah, had a lifes worth already - don't send me no more

Money? - I owe heaps, does THAT count??

Finally, as your dad it SHOULD interest you who I am or where I came from.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

MY heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk:
'Tis not through envy of thy happy lot,
But being too happy in thine happiness,
That thou, light-winged Dryad of the trees,
    In some melodious plot
Of beechen green, and shadows numberless,
Singest of summer in full-throated ease.
"Standing on your mother's corpse you told me that you'd wait forever." [Bryan Adams: Summer of 69]
