    Stupidity

What is it with some bikers.........coming down the hutt motorway this morning in the cage doing about 60 and some twat on a GN250 is filtering through the traffic at about 100..... I am getting really pissed off with this sort of retarded riding, when he finally stuffs it up and comes a cropper... we will just end up paying more for our insurance and rego.

Even worse, I cant even use any of the parts off his bike as spares, although I could stick the 250 badge on the side of the bandit, just for a laugh.

and my final statement is........... ah whats the point

    Bollocks.

You may find that the enforcement of lane spliting on the motorway has been relaxed slightly. As long as you dont do it in a maner that may be considered careless, dangerous or reckless. Keep you speed down to less that 20k diffrence when lane splitting. By the way the bus lanes on the motorway are marked "BUS ONLY" that means only busses may use them.

I have found that it seems to be only newbies & scooters who do this (generalisation I know), quite often I see scooters and learners riders come tearing past me, filtering at high speeds, stupid I know but what can you do. I used to do the same until I met someone in a civic who loveling cut me off and caused me to see my arse, experience will be the only thing these guys listen to, after all, everyone in invincible.....right?

Only if all cage drivers that not of the following:

Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004
    Part 2
    Roads
    Lanes
    2.1 Keeping left
    (1) A driver, when driving, must at all times drive as near as
practicable to the left side of the roadway unless this rule
    otherwise provides.

This would mean that bikes could pass in most cases without too much trouble.

    eek oops

Yeah must admit, just got my license and was splitting at 85 in a 70. Was happily riding along when a red corolla pulls out of its drive way and stops on the median, made me realise to slow down a bit even if i was going 15 over

For a start, being stupid on a bike endangers us all - bikers and cagers. We have a hard enough time with law and perception to us as it is without some idiot lane splitting and crashing (thankfully they didn't in this case). Dumass will learn after he stacks it.

    Divot as a side note this is a direct quote from the Auckalnd city council website;

"Bikes use bus lanes too! Buses, cycles and motorcycles are all authorised users of bus lanes"

You'll find that all main city councils have the same policy toward bikers using bus lanes.

Most of these riders unfortunately dont realise the full stupidity of what they are doing. Maybe its because they havent been in a situation where they have nearly popped one out in their pants.

Its no different from my point of view about saving a few seconds on a journey by upping your speed 10 or 20ks. WHATS THE POINT, as the ads say you are a long time dead so whats the hurry.

    Be patient and

Please note that the Auckland Motorway dose not come under the Auckland City Council. The Motorway is and land around it is owned by Transit New Zealand. The bus lanes on the motorway are marked "BUS ONLY", this means that only buses can use them.

From Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004

bus lane means a lane reserved by a marking or sign installed
at the start of the lane and at each point at which the lane
resumes after an intersection for the use of—
    (a) buses; and
    (b) cycles and motorcycles (unless either or both are specifically
    excluded by the sign)

See now I read that "unless either or both are specifically
excluded by the sign" to mean that the sign must exclude motorcycles and bicycles specifically. In other it has to say on the the sign that cycles and motorcycles are not allowed on the bus lane. Is this enforced by traffic officers? Maybe it's a perception thing....
I suppose this requires further investigation

That's not the first time for that bloke.

He's even split past me when I've been splitting.

    He's a bit dangerous, alright.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Yup. As I said following your post; The law states that the sign must specifically exclude cycles and motorcycles from the bus lane. A sign that says Buses Only does not do that, so under the rules defined by Land Transport (Road User) Rules 2004 motorcycles are entitled to use the bus lanes on the Auckland motorway system (and anywhere else that bus lanes appear on State owned highways/motorways etc.). - And be free from getting hassled by overzealous police officers - not BC though!
