i was wondering about the traffic too, seems this week that there is a shit load of traffic build up prior to Petone overbridge but then its normal through to town, usual is for build up from Maungaraki onwards but seems of late to be from Avalon onwards. What The!
Went to the Riffer School of Lanesplitting last week and found it very useful as i now have a bit more confidence to split on my own. Im that black Hyo that has to jump out of the way to allow the faster splitters go past. My splitting ends at about 70-80km/h. Traffic been good at moving out of the way too for us bikes.
Yeah - traffic in from Petone was slow this morning. Seemed to be that people were randomly slowing down where the resurfacing finished - perhaps because there were some scary traffic cones all the way off the road on the left hand side??
Oooo - scary! And they're not in my lane - better slow down for no reason at all.
The other bad spot is the Petone esplanade heading towards Eastbourne in the evenings. It is stop start all the way along there and there's legality issues (I presume) with going along the left in the turning lanes (if you're not turning left until your driveway in EB, for example...)
[edit - a thread of its own started here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...948#post936948. I really would like to know and don't want to hijack this thread!]
Finally, just near the Exide plant on Waione street last night, some tosser pulled out into the line of traffic and was following me really close. I was keeping an eye on him, which was just as well because the wanker almost hit me when traffic in front slowed down - he actually had to swerve to avoid hitting my back tire. Good thing the road is wide enough there that he could do that without causing any other mayhem.
What a jerk. I gave him a glare but he probably couldn't tell through my dark visor. A-hole. I think I'm done ranting now.
Does anyone know what the legalities or otherwise of travel on the Esplanade are and what any fines might be if you did happen to get stopped doing something dodgy?

Me and my imaginary friend have been goin' round the bend for some time now....
You think it's bad at the moment! Wait until they start the Dowse Interchange construction later in the year. The motorway will, at varying times, be down to one lane in each direction! Yes, thats at least a 50% reduction in capacity - probably more due to rubbernecking. Something to look forward to.
Walks up to bike, thinks "going to ease off a bit on this run"
gets on bike rides off "bloody slow morons*"
Goes past first slow moron thinks "can get past this one too"
insane lunatic passes "doh! what am i being a moron for, i'm a lunatic too"
Have you ever realised how everyone who is slower than you is a moron and everyone faster, a lunatic?
But it is so much fun being a lunatic!
Tonight I AM going to take it eazy...
Motorbike only search
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - CRC AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE CRC. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
I sleep-in, miss the traffic and get to work late most days. Means I have to work late to make up so I miss the evening traffic as well
Yes, I read that they were going to start that later this year.
Traffic slows down already around Petone Bowl and it's going to be a nightmare with that mess going on.![]()
The wife is making noises about jumping on the back of the bike once she goes back to work... should be interesting![]()
When that Interchange is done though it will improve things. Definitely worth doing.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
Traffic does seem to suck everywhere, I might have to come up with a way to carry more saws and tow the chipper with the bike
Yeah tell me about this blardy traffic!!
I had to pass 2 cars up pircock hill today... its getting rediculos!!
