Not sure about restricted, but I used my NZ License there for a year. Car and bike. Got stopped twice ("Ran" a red but it turned out that the light phasing was faulty and the other one was "license" check) and had no problems. Restricted might be a problem though - not sure if beginners are still restriced to 12hp machines in the UK, or whether they've changed to 250cc.

Seems it will be best to get a DAS direct access certificate over there. Over 21, so can take a 3 day test then straight onto full UK licence. around 400 quid though.

Now there's what an infinitely rich learner who is over 21 can do to get around their restrictions. Fly to the UK for 3 days, and get a licence that is valid in NZ for a year, then get that new R1 youve been hankering for. Probably closer places with easier licence tests though.

    No.

They won't recognise any type of license unless it's a full one. It can be handy having a full NZ one as well as a UK one though. I have both and presented the NZ one when busted for speeding once. I didn't have insurance details on me as it was a company bike (I was a london bike courier for 18 months) so had to go down to the local station later with all the details.

I got off the ticket cause my NZ license had more digits in the license number that the UK ones have and they couldn't enter it in the computer. That was five years ago though.

Even if you have a full NZ license you are only legally allowed to ride on it for a year, then you must get a UK one. It's not a biggy though, just a few forms and a small amount of cash. If you do this request your NZ one back stating you need it for when you are in NZ otherwise they won't return it.

The learner license limit there is 33bhp, no matter what the cc rating. You can get a fireblade/hayabusa etc and put a restrictor kit in it and legally ride it on a leaners as long as you have a statement from the registered installer showing it was actually fitted.

I have been in the UK for the past 3 years, July is school holiday time but we get the motoGP and brands superbike, thats always fun. If you want to put a bike on HP. They don't look outside the UK so any ref from NZ don't work. You have to start a credit history over here which takes about 3 years.
I will be heading to Donington and brands this year if you are here in time.
