Trumpy 675 clocks 253kmh, fueled by apples.

No bull. A fuel made from 6000 windfall apples, (fermented by Prince William School in Oundle, Northhamptonshire), broke the bike speed record for biofuel.
Bike supplied, and modifyed slightly, (fuel mapping) by Triumph.
"Bike Magazine" had a leading role to play also.

To be fair, it was Bike's idea! They have been running a series of features on this over the last couple of months.

Probably was their idea Bob, (I never said it was or wasn't), just a cool bit of m/cycling trivia.
Wonder if the neighbour would mind me raiding his plum trees, and giving it go. If the fuel idea fails, I have a heap of fermented plum juice to knock back.

Farking waste of good apples - Imagine how much cider that could have made.

Also don't tell Helen - she will put a bio levy tax on apples.

I think the first part of the series was in the March issue - not sure how easy it is to get copies of Bike in NZ, but interesting reading. The first one deals with what you need to do to convert to a fruit-based fuel system (you still need some old-fashioned petrol in there), plus how they were going to do this. After that (haven't caught up yet, I'm behind in my bike mag reading), they were going to report on how it all went and the big run itself.

AllanB - Must confess I did think about the cider angle myself!

I didn't realise until this feature kicked off, that most of the stuff you put in your bike will probably have some bio-fuel content. Understand it makes for a cheaper product - and your bike doesn't notice a small amount of the stuff.

Of course, in Brazil they've been running vehicles converted to sugar beet fuel for years. When I was there, the petrol stations would have two types of pump, with different colours for petrol or sugar beet fuel. It also smells really sweet, much nicer than the stink of petrol!
