Dry Cleaning Leather?

Has any one had their leathers dry cleaned?

I ran up the best drycleaners in Christchurch and they quoted $41 and two weeks to do it, but is it safe to have it done?

After a search of the web, some manufactures say you shouldn't Dry Clean your leathers.

The leathers in question are a pair of Kushitani pants with polyester lining(non removable).

If not what wax/oil do you recomend after hand washing?

You can buy waxs and oils for your leathers at any place that sells leather products, or any horse saddlery place. I don't recommend dry cleaners.

Use "SNO-SEAL" its a wax.
About $15 a tube, Its bloody great stuff! Water proofs, conditions and protects.
Just heat up your leathers, and rub it in with a rag.
Just be carefull after.. It will leave marks for a little while after.(nothing too bad really) just keep it in mind.
Heating up your leathers helps it melt into them and protect them right through!

im guessing that you want the inside of the leathers cleaned?
Just remember that dry cleaning is a solvent based type of cleaning so i dont know how it would clean leather its self but if u want the inside cleaned i think it would be ok.

if your after just the leather to get cleaned/repaired the best place to go would be your local "leather master" authorised user.

Leather master make awsome cleaning and repair products and leathers come up pretty good from what ive seen.

one place in wellington ive seen in kiwirider is European leather care. Not sure if they are leather master but do a good job.

when you send them to a specialist leather cleaner they remove all those oils and wax care you've done for them

my leather pants (had them for years) shrank so many sizes it wasn't funny.. I couldn't do them up and had to stretch them

be aware things may feel very tight afterwards, and get some of the aformentioned products to replace the oils and wax and age the "wearing in" of your new-looking leathers.

theres a place in Coleridge street that will do them and redye any grazed,damaged bits as well but they quoted $90 just to clean them

Yeah if you can make another plan do it.... mine cost over $70 and it was all stiff when it got back home, lol.... looked shit for a while! :disapint:

if it is dirty,
either brush off the dirt… or wash it with cool-warm water, use NO soap, then (when dry) oil, snow seal,.. go to a horse leather place for oils . (you know a place that sells saddles) .put what you would normally use on and buff to a shinny finish of your choice

DO NOT DRY CLEAN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
