Ok hopefully it will work this time.
1983 XS650 YAMAHA.A lot more cleaning an polishing yet but I,m geting there,Changed the bars to a lower set now the seat feels heaps better plus she feels better on the road,them standard high bars did nothing for me,now she,s ace Bro.

Jackrat,

Looks to be a bit of a minter. Serious question though, what is it about the XS650s that made you want to get one, or another one again. I obtained an old '76 RD350 that I restored, and then sold, I got it because it was a great bike and I really enjoyed riding and working on them.

Yes she has the black engine,but somebody has removed the paint from the barrels.As to why I wanted an XS,I had a 75 B model in 1980.I know most things about the engine and have done most of the jobs that ever need doing on one,they are very eazy to work on,I have owned twins from Japan,italy,usa,and england,The XS is in my opinion the cheapest to buy,work on and are eazly the most reliable.As a standard bike they don,t really handle, go fast or stop,but they can be made to handle and stop very cheaply and eazly,with the input of about two grand they can be made very fast,yet still reliable as a rock.The stage three
Halco 900 kit will give around 90hp which is more than I need.
I origianly wanted another B model but this is what I got,This bike will get the handling and braking mods, but I will find an older
one for the full cafe an big motor project.I just got on to a guy out my way with about ten complete engines and enough spare parts to build several bikes,he also has access to every thing an XS fan could ever hope for. Plus for me nostalgia plays a huge part,no offence to anyone but modern bikes don,t do much for me,
To high tech I guess.
Errrr,yeah I do like a comfy seat but this one is real ugly,it over powers the look of the bike,I am tossing up what to do about it,This frame has a lot of brackets that arn,t on the old frames,if I put an older seat on it they are all exposed,YYYEEEEK.
I may just cut down the rear section to give a cleaner line,I don,t carry pillions unless in a last resort so it won,t matter in that regard,an if I have to they can just suffer for making me do something I hate.After all it,s a bike not a station wagon.

yeah those xs650 wheels will fit on your R1, but you can only run a 150 rear. ;-)

Needs an early gsxr750 or gs1100 swingarm and upgraded wheels.

Those pipes are very restrictive,the headers are a double wall with a small inner dai,The mufflers have been spiked which is supposed to give a small gain in top end but I don,t know about that,I may have high line pipes made for it that run down the left side,if so I will make sure they are a larger inner dia,and also change the air filters,and carb,s. From what I have read the mufflers as long as they are not to restrictive make little real diff,apart from sound.
The change of headers,carb,s ,Air filters and Cam is the stage one
hop up for this bike,The Cam from the B model is a little hotter than this one,My old B model would of smoked this one as it was an ex cop bike, an already tuned up.
This gets me on to another subject,if you want to do your engine a big favour get your self some MILITEC 1 and put it in,it is used by most NATO forces in everything from Tanks to hand guns,
I use it in my 4x4 and rifles,it will give you a slight incress in HP
and protect your engine in high temp situations.There are NZ dealers,it is cheap and you can find it on the web,Try it you won,t be sorry.

Farout dude! I can only imagine how skinny the tyre must be considering my 400's front takes a 120!

I guess tyres have come a way since 1979. I think a 120 will fit, or in some brands a 130, but it's the narrow swingarm that's holding the show up.

I've got an 86 gsxr1100 swingarm/shock You can have cheap. I even polished the swingarm but it needs a little finishing.

oh & wkid, that exhaust wouldn't last long by the sounds of it.
