    ASBK R3 Queensland raceway

Just a bit of an update! I packed my bags up on tuesday and headed off to queensland to compete in the Superstock 1000 class of the ASBK series, basically its superbikes with no internal engine mods, most the factorys have a rider in the class but its just a little more realistic on the budget and im just doing it to race some diff riders and try improve my riding a bit!

Ive been struggling with the control tyre, its basically a road compound dunlop 209gp qualifyer, i tried to get some in NZ to test on but we dont have them unfortunetly. The problem im having is the side grip and I just cant get the power to the ground, fortunetly everyone has to run identical tyres!

Thursday was a practice day so i just got used to the track with some old tyres and figured they were just sliding because they were old, i was running around 6th and figured new tyres would be worth a second or two.... chucked a new set on for qualifying today and was a little shocked as the new tyres were much the same! Thankfully Peter Fenton and the team are over there helping out robbie so Peter just started working through my suspension to get a bit more grip, Robbie suggested some diff lines and to try get the bike stood up real quick sorta point and shoot sorta riding style.

I qualified 5th but it was ultra close from 2nd through to 10th. With Pat Medcalf on the factory yamaha dominating by over a sec to 2nd.

    Race 1

Sorta seems i start all my reports this way! Gotta bad start! Come out of turn 1 about 10th, pushed pretty hard and had 3 decent out of the seat moments mainly on the cold side of the tyre, we made a bit of a calculation error when setting the front suspension so we had wound off all the pre load which made the bike bottom out and chatter under brakes, got through to 6th and made a pass for 5th but ran wide and got passed back. So 6th it was!

A little disappointed with the result but im happy with my riding as im finally starting to get used to the tyres and I was realing in 3rd and 4th as i was catching up to 5th place.

It was a bit hard to set any goals before the weekend as there were so many unknown factors but not for sure my goal is to get into the top 3 by the end of the weekend!!

You can keep an eye on the live timing which is interesting on http://www.computime.com.au/

Thats a good result for your first time out at an unfamiliar track on a different tyre than what you're used to

Good luck for the rest of the weekend

On ya mate ! Nice to see !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
