Two bikers dead - Sunday 11 May

    From NZ Herald:

Police said a male motorcyclist died in Tokoroa about 3.45pm yesterday but no further details were available.

A 54-year-old motorcyclist from Carterton died after losing control of his bike south of Dannevirke at 10.30am yesterday.

    ----------

I saw the accident south of Dannevirke while on a Ulysses Club ride from Masterton to Norsewood. Looked like the police had been there for awhile, with accident signs posted. 3 bikes had stopped, plus a few cars. Caught a glimpse of what could have been the victim covered with something white. None of our guys knew anything about it; not one of our club members. If I get news from local sources, I'll post it here (after reading the forum rules about this topic). Its possible that the victim was returning from the Cold Duck Rally but I do not see anything on the Cold Duck thread.

I know of who the rider from Carterton was,(not my place to post his name) I didnt know him personally but he was a good friend of some people I know.. very very sad. Rest in Peace.

    Sleep now, and dream
of the ones who came before.
    They are calling,
    from across a distant shore.

Didn't know either bikers either but the Carterton guy was on a Harley and was on his way back from the Cold Duck. Police say in the other accident alcohol and inexperience were factors.

    Bad weekend for motorcyclists.

RIP to family and friends who knew him, judging by comments on here quite a few.

As an aside the other victim on the road (car) is known to us as well, not nice, but then neither is not wearing belts.

I am always deeply saddened by the lost of any biker, weather i knew them or not. He died doing something he loved , but this is little consolation to those he left behind. May he rest in peace.

He was 24, the young lad from Tok. They say drink and no helmet.

Very very sad case indeed then.

Our local paper says the Carterton man was 54 years old, and that as an oncoming car came close to his bike, he lost control when on the grass verge. It is not clear if he was on the correct side of the road, but I saw his covered body on the opposite side (if he was coming from the Cold Duck Rally) so he must have swung wide on the curve.

Yes, very sad, and tragic. Paul's funeral will probably be well attended by Harley riders, including Carterton's mayor Gary McPhee who is a long time Harley biker.

The young man is Reagan Katene. He is the younger brother of a close friend of mine. Funeral to be held at Meremere Marae, Ohangai, Hawera @ 11am Friday 16th 2008.

Details of the deceased & service are already publicaly advertised hence my relaying the information in here.

I am not aware of the circumstances surrounding the accident but obviously it is a devastating time. My heart goes out to all involved. Trace xxx
