Grub's Wellington Funeral (Thu 13 Nov)

    Hi guys

Bretts memorial service is being held at Whitby Lakeside Baptist Church, Discovery Drive, Whitby on Thursday 13th November at 2pm.

Brett will be leaving home around 1pm. Until then he is at home, please feel free to come and visit and talk shit with him or Kari or each other.

After the service we will be taking Brett to Auckland. We would like as many bikes as possible to escort him from Whitby to Wellington airport.

Hi all I plan on riding down (Taranaki) to Grubs memorial service Thursday morning and coming home the same day. Give me a pm if ya want to ride down as a group.

    Cheers Dan

I live in Breaker Bay (next to the airport) and work in Whitby. In other words, this is my commute. I'll give you a call.

Hey I would love to be a part of the ride but I came off mine also and damaged my bike which I have stripped down for repairs. Hope the weather for that day shines on all of you.

Hi Mom. I should be able to help at airport end seeing as I work there. I'll speak to a few people tomorrow and give you a ring. You can ring me on 0274 439 102 if you need to talk sooner. Cheers Graeme

Ditto with helping wherever whenever i can, time on my hands so don't hesitate to get in touch !

Anyone passing by as a group gis a yell with times etc, will jump in at my gate on SH1
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

    Putting my hand up

OK, so I've just talked to Mom and basically, as you can imagine, they're busy as all hell and stressed to the max right now ... and the thing I can do to help is organise this ride. So I will.

    The story is this:

Basically we're giving Grub a sendoff by riding en-masse round the waterfront.

As you can see, above, the service is being held at Whitby Lakeside Baptist Church at 2PM. Clearly it's best to get to the church before 2PM, but if you can't get that much time off work or some other thing then plan on the ride itself leaving at 3:30. The hearse will be driving down to Welly, then around the waterfront, and finally to the airport. I reckon that'll take about an hour then, frankly, I'd plan on getting out of Wellington before the rush hour starts.

The route will be "follow the hearse" although since we may be broken up I'll post a route in a minute - I'll try to get the drivers of the hearse to confirm that this was their plan too. That's pretty much it.

    What I'll do next:

Is attach some maps to the thread and tomorrow will try to get cellphone snaps of the corners (i.e. Go left here). Then generally speaking keep an eye on it, try to answer questions and try to work out what it is I can do to make everything go OK.

    Some questions:

Do we need to or want to try and organise a ride that comes up from town, meets up a few places and then gets to the church at the right time?

If we have some out-of-towners looking to come down and sleep somewhere then perhaps we should use this thread for that too?

    A call for reason

It sounds stupid and vaguely offensive to say it, but I will anyway. Please no stupid shit. No wheelstands, no speeding, no burnouts. If you have to do that sort of thing, some other day please.

    A call for action

Please come, he's one of us. Please also add to this thread saying you're coming. Either add to the thread of PM me with questions.

Right. So, I've not done this sort of thing before and I'm neither the self important nor officious type - I'm just trying to help. Let me know what I should do...

I'll be there, (will find a map as I have no idea where Kari lives or where the funeral is) Hopefully I will be at Kari and Bretts home first, but will bring the cage as I dont feel up to riding over the takas on my bike. Elle do you want a lift? This is the very least I can do.
