Fuel capacity of an 03 R1?

    Hi Guys

Can anyone tell me for sure how much fuel an 2003 R1 can hold.

I've looked up the stats online and found that its supposedly 19L

The problem is that last night I believe I rang out of fuel but it only took 16.3L to fill the tank????

Seems a bit low? And I think I've put more fuel than that in it before.

I wish now that I'd tried a little harder to determine that the tank was definately empty before refilling.

Could it be something else - do the bikes have an electronic petcock or something? I'd assumed that as it has a fuel light and fuel trip meter that counts up from when the light comes on - that there'd be no reason for a petcock?

Other piece of info that may be relevant is that the bike was serviced during the current tank of gas and the tank was raised during the service. It seems a little coincedental to me but I'm not convinced that it is related.

    Post +1 Motorcycle doctors (again)

Just spoke to George (Motorcycle Doctors) who serviced the bike, he reassured me that none of the adjustments that he made could affect my fuel economy and there's nothing internal to the tank or nothing weird about the petcock.

15mins later he calls me to say he looked up my service manual and the Total Fuel Capacity is definately 17L and it has a 3.5L reserve

Man I must have come so close to running out of fuel many times without even knowing it
