Does anyone out there have a GPS receiver on their bike? Looking at getting something like this:

Good when you have a friend like Motobull who has no sense of direction![]()

I sometimes attach a Magellan GPS310 for checking the speedo or geocaching. I'm considering upgrading to one that stores more data and can playback or download the trip. Handy at times, but I don't normally attach it for most riding.
Time to ride
I use a Garmin GPSMap76CS which looks like this on the bikes. Costs about 4 times the price of the eTrex though. You can use it on speed/distance/elevation type readout as per the pic of it on the VFR or use it in map mode while showing speed/time etc at the top which is what I do most of the time on the bikes.
It records the trips for downloading which I am looking forward to doing after the Capital Coast Adventure. Even in a local area on an adventure ride its always hard to remember where you went given you are just following local instruction route sheets.
See my earlier post about checking speedos http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=22396

Yeah I use an Etrex Legend. Got it new off trademe for a bit cheaper than that (maybe $220). Was *new* and came from the states (guy was in the states)...base map was US, but downloaded NZ maps for free of opensource map site in NZ. Bought handlebar mount...its pretty cool.
Nice bike, welcome to the site.

I got a Navman ICN 520 on my Bike, works fine at night but the screen is not Bright enough under the sun, a little shade on the top of the screen might help.
The unit works great in 3D mode at night, it give me advance warning before corners, I can see the road ahead of me on the screen
With Rune, I really need to know how sharp corners ahead because this beast is a known tarmac scraper![]()
Safe and Smooth riding - Ride for Ever
Just installed the Garmin Etrex Legend C. Got it off a mate who has a few brand new.. Stem mounted, I use it for touring etc and have the MapSource software for tracks, waypoints etc.. Downloaded NZ maps for free... still getting used all the functions, but its a nice "toy"![]()
It's been a rough day. I got up this morning, put on a shirt and a button fell off.
As I ran out the door, I picked up my briefcase, and the handle came off.
Now I'm afraid to go to the bathroom.

Brave of you to trust the mapping software RE corners.
The best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight underpants.
You will be surprised how accurate Navman’s data, I also have ICN 635 in my car and they are really good units.due to work commitment, I often ride along at night and any indication of non straight road is good warning with this bike, with the weight of 410kg I might need to call a crane if I drop her![]()

A very brave man.
To every man upon this earth
Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
Tell me, did that bike come with an anchor? I've sat on that bike before. Is it the only one in the country?Originally Posted by runed
Fuck, didn't even know one had been sold in NZ. Seriously cool cruiser.

Depends what you're looking to do with it. For navigation I use a Navman iCN 520 which does everything I need it to (hey, I helped design the damned thing) but for basic GPS stuff I have a Timex Ironman watch with a wireless GPS receiver. It tells me speed, distance travelled, etc, and to top it all I can wear the heart monitor as well to see how high my pulse goes on some of those corners!Originally Posted by pug106xsi
Remember to never split an infinitive. The passive voice should never be used. Do not put statements in the negative form. Proofread carefully to see if you words out. And don't start a sentence with a conjugation. (William Safire)
