For anyone interested
Andy Mac & I are meeting at the SH2/Dowse Drive junction at 9:15am for a Sunday ADV ride. From there we will be collecting a mate of Andy's somewhere around Upper Hutt before heading over the hill and onto Sutherlands Hut.
Anyone else interested is welcome to turn up. Balrog may do.
We may or may not look at going up the Rimutaka Hill pylon access track if we are all keen, but I don't know if Andy or his mate have been up there and I've only been halfway so don't know which forks to take or what condition it is in.

Yeah, I'll be a starter, even at that ungodly hour![]()

Eddie mate, have a look at my pylon track ride report here:

Pic number 2 shows the track junction where you need to take the right hand fork to head up to the top; the write up explains too. The junction is obvious, you won't miss it. I didn't explore the left fork on my ride!
Have fun mate; sorry can't join you - on kiddie duty tomorrow - getting my brownie points in so I can bugger off all weekend next weekend for the SCADV ride!!!
Cheers, Dave
have fun fookers
Well after your track construction duties last weekend at Orongorongo station, is anyone interested in a ride this weekend? It should be fine in the Waiarapa ,so we could do some gravel touring. I'm available either day, any suggestions?
It's starting to sound like Sutherlands Hut is going to become the Wellington Adv riders version of the Rimutaka Hill, the place to go on a sunday.

Well there's worse places to go on a weekend!
Have tentatively planned to meet Junkmanjoe next Saturday 28th Feb to go do Sutherlands Hut again and explore/find the track that is supposed to head over the hill and out onto the Ngawi Rd! I'll post it up separately to see who else wants to come along!
Which brings us back to this Saturday 21st Feb - anyone want to head out for a ride from the Welly area?
Actually the weather forecast is better for the 'Rapa than Welly - something over there besides Sutherlands Hut we could explore?
I presume with the oncoming wet weather Karapoti/Akatarawa Forest and Odlins might be off the menu without full on knobblies but I haven't been on either of those so wouldn't know for sure.
What do you Welly lot fancy then?
Cheers, Dave
I’ve got a cold so would prefer a less strenuous ride, some gravel & twisty seal roads will suit me. The rain should have reduced the dust.
Rimutakas - Martinborough - White Rock & Tawhiti - Toppy’s, Martinborough - Admirals Range - Gladstone pub. Then a blat up Gladstone Hill out to Flat Point. And possibly another refreshment stop at Greytown on the way home?
But it’s Joe’s backyard & I will go with the flow.
Andy, just been havin a chat with Joe; his day has freed up tomorrow(21st) so he & I are gonna go reccie the extra track over the hill from Sutherlands Hut down to the Ngawi Road to see what state its in and suitability for bigger bikes ready for the longer ride next Saturday that will go thru there and round to Cape Palliser.
So its not going to be a long day tomorrow, just a reccie and maybe a bit of a play around on some side tracks or gravel roads too maybe.
You and anyone else are very welcome to come along on the reccie tomorrow though. Am meeting Joe, and any others from the 'Rapa, at Toppy's in Martinborough at 10am, so any Welly crowd we could meet at the Rimutaka Caltex in Upper Hutt just before 9am, for a 9am/9.05am start if you fancy a ride out.
I am going to do a final weather check in the morning but at the mo it looks as if the rain should be cleared from the 'rapa side for tomorrow & just showers Welly side. If the forecast has significantly deteriorated, I'll post up a cancellation on here 8am and i'll be calling Joe to let him know either way anyway.
Cheers, Dave
